I used the halo quad set demo fins on my new 7’0” at Silva channels the other day and it worked good. I was able to take some late drops with no problem and turn hard at the bottom. The drive was there but I noticed that I could snap the board at places on the wave that I couldn’t with the regular fins. It really has the snappiness of the pivot fin but also the drive with the wide base. I thoroughly enjoyed the session and went to Dave and purchased a set. Mahalo South Shore for turning me on to the halo fins.

Hi Dave , firstly i would like to say many thanks for the
excellent service , being all the way over here in Oz didn't make any
difference and i felt the aloha .
anyhow i am a hopeless
surfer I'm no kelly Slater not a tom Carroll , think i can style like
jerry Lopez but only when i'm sleeping in my dreams ..
anyhow
got your halos put the on my 10' starboard sup and tried them out on a
few different days ,here's what i noticed at my local beach break which
tends to have more closeout days than nice peeling days and i would
have to wait for those days a little more than the others .
..but
with the halos i noticed that down the line my board pumped so i tried
a closeout sorta day the kind that i wouldn't bother worry with the sup
,and that extra speed got me more wave time than i could imaging , i
kid you not these fins rip ! thanks for making me that little bit
better . I;m still no Lopez hehehe.
cheers

Locking straps
I had trouble with the locks on my first set of straps, and the owner bent over backwards to help me get them working correctly. When that failed, he went out of his way to help me get a new set, which he didnt have to do. I had to come in a 3rd time for help on the straps and he bent even farther back. None of which was necessary. I deeply appreciate the help he gave me. I dont think I wouldve got that kind of service at any other surf shop. I am now committed to buying all my surf needs from Southshore. I cant thank you enough. =)

Resin8 Tokoro quad fish
I had absolutely no intention of buying a new board, but fell in love with the clean lines of the Resin8 Tokoro quad fish the moment I saw it. At 6'2", 190lbs, I usually surf fish in the 5'10" - 6' range, but something about the Tokoro quad told me it might work for me, even at the deceivingly diminutive 5'8 1/2" length. The board did not let me down, paddling extremely well, and the short length did not hinder my wave catching at all.
Now for the performance review.
The stock quad fins do not have quite enough hold for someone of my weight, but I actually had fun with the "sliding" sensation I felt when dropping in on a steep face. The board still developed considerable drive out of a bottom turn, and I had a couple experiences where I literally could not believe that I managed to make it through a given section. Almost like I was being teleported down the line, it was that fast. Top turns were not particularly snappy, but that may be due to my own lack of experience with quads. I get the feeling that will improve significantly with a few more sessions, and with the addition of slightly larger/stiffer fins.
I've ridden a lot of the newer composite boards, and for me the Resin8 technology is the closest feel to traditional glass boards. Very good flex characteristics, not the dead-stiff surftech feel at all.
This is my new favorite board, highly recommend it!

hi-performance lightweight missle. only downfall is that they easily get paint chipped and repairs are $$. but overall-solid winner! thanks guys, T.
Howzit Dave & Keith:
I'll be going in for shoulder surgery (right rotator cuff) in a couple of weeks, then do the left side maybe in another couple of months.
So I won't be getting in the water for awhile. I wanted to tell you guys thanks for all your help these past few years. It was awesome trying the epoxy boards. The Infinity boards I got are great for 'senior citizens' like me. I sent a picture of myself from a session with Payton, Vernon, and Cal folks. Don't laugh too hard...when I come back after my surgery I'm going to rule the 80+ age bracket. (who am I kidding...I'm ONLY 59 and I can't beat 80-yr. olds!)
Anyway, you guys take care and keep up the good work. I would always recommend you guys to anyone looking for good equipment along with your expertise. And it's great that you offer the discount on the longboards too. Well, I already talked too long...
Thanks again....Wendell Konn (I wish I was retired, already!!)
P.S. I hope you guys snag a few barrel rides while I'm stuck on shore recovering.....
Hey Keith,
Here is my unprofessional opinion of the Secret Weapon:
Very
good looking board that paddles almost as easily as my 11' (this is a
8' 6" board). This board catches waves and turns easily. What
Infinity says about this board is not hype, it paddles, catches waves
and turns easily. If you're looking for a great board that won't leave
you tired after a 5 hour plus surfing session this is it. The guys
(Dave, Keith, etc.) at Hawaiian South Shore are fantastic, very
friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. I go there to pick Keith's
brain (he's the man), no matter how stupid or ridiculous the surfing
related question Keith will try and answer it. By far, my favorite
surf shop!!!

What did you Purchase from us? 10ft. C4 Stand-up Paddleboard
If you purchased a surfboard please tell us your height and weight so we can use this info to help others out in choosing the right board. 5' 7" 197lbs.
Best Features You Like About The Product? This board fits me very well! Easy to balance and surf. Good all around board, even when it's flat. Tried many other sup brands, C4 boards are well designed for high performance surfing and nice to look at. Fins are placed properly, the rails of this product speaks for itself.Surfs solid on the face of the wave, set-up for good bottom turns and cutbacks. I cann't find any weak points about this product. Everyone that owns a C4, usually purchase another for different conditions. C4 boards are manufactered with excellance. Reason for saying this, it can handle alot of abuse. From hitting the rail with paddling or taking nasty wipe-outs in bigger surf. I know Dave Parmanter personnaly. He's been doing big boards for the brahda's for quite some time on the west-side. Has alot of experience and knowldge of surfbord building. Keen on what or how to make it excel for it's purpose. I firmly believe and promote this product exculsively.

Out of those 3 boards, I love the Bing Love Bird the best! This one is relatively thin for Bing model and the tail is thin too. This is the board paddles so fast and I can catch a lot of waves! Once I am on the wave, I can move the board so easily! But the best of all, this is such a cute board.
We would love to hear your story. Write a short paragraph telling us how or why you started surfing and about your new board you bought from us. Has it helped or hindered your surfing? In what way?
I started surfing about 2 years ago. My first board was 8'6 and kept down sizing to 8'0, 7'2, 5'11 fish and 6'4 short board.
On my 26th birthday, my boyfriend bought me 9'1 long board. That was when I first rode long board and I fell in love with it right away. I had several long boards until I met THE RIGHT ONE, Bing Love Bird. I felt it right away when I first paddle out with it. It paddles so fast and it is so easy to manoever. I am not a good surfer at all, but this board made me feel like I am a better surfer.

After owning a 9'1" McTavish Original for several years with the original fin 2+1 configuration I started looking for new fin combos that would complement my evolving riding style. I started a progression of surfing on shorter boards (quad-fins) and found that my new riding preferences put my McTavish into steeper drop-ins and a need to make tighter turns connecting sections. After experimenting with various fins; Turbo, hatchets/cutaways, & full-height/base; I have found the Wavegrinder to be my best choice whenever I go out.
It's amazing (when due to wave conditions) I swap between different fin configurations into the board and see how much of a difference you feel on takeoff and maneuvers on the face. The Wavegrinder has given me some memorable rides in overhead conditions being able to paddle with minimal effort to tuck into some short tubes and phenomenal experiences being able to go from rail to rail in some sections without stalling with no penalty on speed nor control. Additionally on really bumpy days with some nasty onshore wind I feel that the winglets gives you that extra hold in the water providing for you and your board a a little more predictable ride response in the chop and mushy conditions.
Sincerely Yours,
george y
