Kalani Lattanzi Brings Bodysurfing to Peahi and Takes Wave Riding to the Next LevelĀ šø @martincaprileĀ In early November, Hawaii saw its first proper XL swellāand it ended up being a great way to kick off the season. Solid 12- to 18-foot waves hammered the North Shore, where the wind was light/variable and conditions were pretty perfect. Meanwhile, over on Maui, the waves were a touch bigger, and the wind also stayed light, which is a rarity on the Valley Isle. This provided a rare opportunity for Kalani Lattanzi, a Brazilian who was born in Hawaii and who has made a name for himself as the worldās gnarliest big wave bodysurfer. Although he moved to Brazil when he was young, LattanziĀ is now based between Maui and Nazare, Portugal, where he has spent the past decade honing his big wave and bodysurfing game. Lattanzi has been swimming out at massive Nazare for over a decade, often without any media coverage or water safety, and bodysurfing humongous peaks that usually end up mowing him down. 2016 Point Panic ExperienceĀ BodySurf - HandBoard Vissla,Ā DaFiNĀ and Hawaiian South ShoreĀ are proud to present the iconic bodysurfing and handboarding contest, Point Panic Experience! This year will be the 8th annual Point Panic contest, which runs in the form of a two-day, wave-filled, stoke fest. Point Panic is one of very few bodysurfing contests with a 3 month holding period, running from July 15th until October 15th, 2016.Ā Why so long? Because for Point Panic, conditions have to be perfect -- 90 feet and glassy. The wait is worth it. Competitors and spectators flood the South Shore of Oahu to join the madness, excited to perform and watch thrilling and innovative waveriding. Information from the Contest Sheet below DOWNLOAD PDF ENTERY FROM HERE When: A one-time annual FRIDAY-SATURDAY (or SAT-SUN, surf permitting) event with holding period beginning Fri, July 15th till Sat, Oct. 15th 2016. Check in begins at 7AM. 1st competition heat starts promptly at 8AM. Surf and wind conditions determine event call. What: An OPEN bodysurfng (Day 1) and OPEN handboarding (Day 2) competition with 40 competitors maximum in each competition.
