THE RIPPER DESCRIPTION

WHAT IS LOST THE RIPPER?

The Lost Ripper Surfboard, inspired by Kolohe Andino and the legacy of the Rad Ripper, is the latest innovation from Lost Surfboards. Designed for the modern surfer, it strips away '80s nostalgia for a cleaner, contemporary approach to small wave surfing. This board is all about enhancing fun, agility, and performance in small waves.

Key Features

  • Modernized Shape: A more pulled-in nose and added rocker replace the traditional beak nose, facilitating smoother transitions. The deck and rails have been re-foiled for a more forgiving ride, while the tail is thinner and boxier with a subtle hip for improved performance in small waves.
  • Optimized Bottom Contours: Features a low overall rocker with a single to double concave/vee tail, ensuring speed, ease in paddling, and control for quick directional changes and aggressive surfing off the tail.
  • Lightspeed Construction: Utilizes an EPS foam core wrapped in biaxial carbon fiber, making the board lighter, more buoyant, and durable. This construction offers about 2 liters more float than traditional poly boards, enhancing wave catching and paddling.

Benefits

  • Versatility: Suitable for both casual and aggressive surfers, The Ripper supports powerful maneuvers for advanced surfers and provides ease and speed for beginners.
  • Enhanced Performance: The modern design and Lightspeed construction improve small wave performance, making paddling easier and surfing more enjoyable.
  • Durability: Lightspeed construction ensures the board is stronger, more ding-resistant, and lighter, promising longevity and consistent performance.

LOST LIGHTSPEED CONSTRUCTION

LightSpeed is our proprietary surfboard construction built with lightweight EPS foam and high strength epoxy resin.  LightSpeed uses a combination of Rapid-Reflex Carbon Fiber as well vibration dampening Innegra-Fibers, woven into the finest custom performance fiberglass cloth.

Like the name implies, LightSpeed is both light and exceptionally fast, allowing you to take your surfing to new levels of speed and Pro-formance.  Developed in-house, our crew of board builders worked closely with our top Jr and WQS team riders to create the best possible technology for High Pro-formance small wave and every day surfing. After well over a year of testing various versions, and R&D with some of the world’s best young surfers, we are now making this exciting custom surfboard construction available to all.

LIGHTSPEED SURFBOARD CONSTRUCTION

LIGHT SPEED Custom Composite features:

Ultra-Light / Ultra-Lively Foam Core: Steam molded, High Strength-to-Weight Ratio, fused cell, water resistant, stringer-less EPS foam core.

High-Strength, Flexible, Impact Resistant, Epoxy Resin System. Woven Carbon Fiber Centerline “Stringer” (top and bottom): Engineered to add both strength and Rapid-Reflex “pop”, with just enough release to feel forgiving underfoot. The Carbon loads up under foot pressure, and springs upon release.

Fused Carbon, Tail Reinforcement Patches: Transfers more direct input into rail and adds strength.

LOST LIGHTSPEED SURFBOARDS

Centerline Aligned Carbon “Exo-Stringers”: Enable natural Torsional Twist, similar to a wood stringer board, but lighter, and with a much faster reflex reaction and more “pop”.

Innegra Infused, Engineered Composite Fiberglass: A multi weave (6oz lengthwise, woven with 4oz, rail to rail) fiberglass, top and bottom, adds significant break strength, while keeping the boards Ultra-light and Ultra-lively.

5oz Warp-Weave Fiberglass: A multi weave (6oz lengthwise, woven with 4oz, rail to rail) fiberglass, top and bottom, adds significant break strength, while keeping the boards

Ultra-light and Ultra-lively.

LightSpeed – Light and exceptionally fast technology, allowing you to take your small wave and everyday surfing to new levels of speed and Pro-formance.

LOST PU (POLYURETHANE ) CONSTRUCTION

PU construction refers to surfboards built from polyurethane blanks with polyester resin, while PE denotes polyurethane blanks with epoxy resin.

These traditional setups remain widely used and affordable across most brands. The weight and density of the foam in PU and PE boards cause them to sit lower in the water, keeping the rail engaged and providing a sharp, "knifey" feel when carving through waves. The added weight also helps on choppy days, reducing bounce and making the board more stable.

The lower profile benefits barrel riding too, offering better hold in hollow waves. One notable characteristic of PU boards is their lively flex pattern, which shapers often try to replicate in EPS/epoxy boards using reinforcements like carbon strips or parabolic rails.

LOST THE RIPPER FAQS

How does The Ripper differ from the Rad Ripper?

The Ripper has several key differences from its predecessor:

  1. More refined nose with added lift
  2. Pulled-in tail design
  3. Softened rails for improved forgiveness
  4. Subtle bump replacing the fluted wing
  5. Slightly more entry rocker
  6. No beak nose

These changes result in a more modern feel while maintaining the speed and flow of the original Rad Ripper.

What wave conditions is The Ripper best suited for?

The Ripper is optimized for small to medium-sized waves, typically in the 1-5 foot range.

It excels in average beach break conditions and is particularly effective as a daily driver for surfers looking to perform in everyday surf.

What fin setup works best with The Ripper?

The Ripper is versatile and can be used with various fin configurations:

  1. Thruster (3 fins)
  2. Quad (4 fins)
  3. 2+1 (two side fins plus a center fin)

Many surfers have reported good results with FCS II fins, particularly more vertical fin designs or Reactor fins.

Experimenting with different fin setups can help you find the optimal configuration for your surfing style.

Who is The Ripper designed for?

The Ripper is suitable for a wide range of surfers, from intermediate to advanced and even professional levels.

It's particularly appealing to surfers who want to surf aggressively off the tail in small to average wave conditions

What are the key features of The Ripper's design?

  1. Low overall rocker for easy wave entry and speed maintenance
  2. Single concave center for enhanced drive and acceleration
  3. Generous double concave/vee through fins and tail for improved maneuverability
  4. Wide tail block for stability and lift
  5. Refined rails balancing performance and user-friendliness

How does The Ripper perform in terms of speed and maneuverability?

The Ripper is known for its excellent speed generation and maintenance, even in weaker wave conditions. The low rocker and refined bottom contours allow the board to carry speed through flat sections. In terms of maneuverability, the pulled-in tail and double concave/vee combination enable quick direction changes and responsive turns
