Firewire’s Greedy Beaver Puts the Fun Back Into Funboards

When the waves are less than stellar, it is often up to your board to provide the inspiration. “Funboards” have long been the answer, combining the best attributes of both shortboards and longboards to give you trim and glide without sacrificing maneuverability. But most “funboards” are little more than pared-down longboards—mid-lengths that give you a taste of fun, but still feel a bit clunky underfoot.

The Greedy Beaver by Firewire has found a way to correct those issues, producing a “funboard” that is actually fun—that really does deliver short-board maneuverability while still maintaining paddle speed and float through flat sections. The compressed longboard outline provides lots of volume, allowing you to maintain down-the-line speed even on the most gutless of waves. But the single to double concave and pintail in the back make the board sensitive and responsive, so you can whip it around and surf it like a shortboard, and hold a line in the pocket.

The Greedy Beaver is intended to be surfed in two- to six-foot waves (on the face), but is still fun even when it gets smaller than that, allowing you to cruise on ankle-biters as if you were on a log. It comes in lengths ranging from 5'6" to 6'10", with volumes ranging from 30-52 liters. Whether you are looking for a summer time groveler or something that the whole family can enjoy, the Greed Beaver just might be the answer. And with the added benefit of the durable, lightweight Firewire construction, this board will last for generations to come.
