Who Is Mike Woo?
Mike Woo is the Bali-based shaper behind the Spaceship — and the two of them didn't even start working together until 2020. Woo grew up in Palolo Valley on Oahu's south shore, surfing Ala Moana Bowls, before heading to Japan in his early twenties to shape and compete. A trip to Bali after that turned into a permanent move — he's been building boards there ever since, running his own respected label, Woo Surfboards, with reach that now extends into Japan.
It took a mutual friend to actually get Slater and Woo in a room together: on a trip to Bali in 2020, Slater's longtime friend, Indonesian surfing legend Rizal Tandjung, introduced the two. What started there turned into years of shaping side by side, eventually leading to the Spaceship.

How Is the Spaceship Designed?
Every part of the outline is built around one job: holding on when a wave gets powerful, then releasing cleanly the moment you want it to. The rounded pintail carries a single concave through the front half of the board that runs into a double concave between your feet — a subtle, functional shortboard bottom, not an extreme one.
The tail carries the same idea down to a fine point: it's thinned out to a narrow spine right at the back edge, on purpose. That's what concentrates the board's hold and release right where a rider needs it most — at the tail, in the middle of a turn.

Proflex is Firewire's newest and most advanced carbon layup — a 1.5-pound EPS core wrapped in a 3mm deck skin over an engineered carbon cage, with S-glass on the deck and carbon wrapped over the rail on the bottom for strength and even flex.
