Hawaiian South Shore Member of the Month - Kaleo Amadeo

When and why did you initially get into surfing?

I was born and raised in Pa’ia on the island of Maui which is a beach town on the north shore side of Maui. My older brother surfed and my dad fished a lot . We lived about 5 minutes away from the beach so we played in the shore break and rode morey boogie body boards and then my older brother gave me his hand me downs from single fins to twin fins then thrusters.

Did you have a time period you laid off from surfing? If so, when and why did you start back up?

I've been surfing for over 40 years. I was a lifeguard for 25 years for Maui county and retired in 2017. Was lucky enough to work at all the beaches here on Maui and was able to work the last 15years of at hookipa beach park where we grew up surfing.

What is your favorite thing about surfing?

I love being able to escape the hustle and bustle of being on a rock and all the stress that is on this rock and go out and be free and leave all my troubles behind.

Where is your favorite place to eat after surfing?
I love to eat at paia fish market, when there is no line but anywhere that has good food. Im not too picky.

What is your favorite item on the menu?
I like the cajun ahi burger

What other hobbies do you have besides surfing?
Fishing and diving are my other hobbies

What type of work do you do?
I now work for Hawaiian Airlines

Tell us about the board you recently purchased from us. What model and size is it, and how do you like its performance?
Last board I bought from you guys was the HarleyIngleby diamond Drive. 93 I think it is Board works amazing rides smooth is fast and turns on a dime. I also bought the 91 TJ Pro gem as well as the TJ Pro black carbon all my boards work insane!

Do you have any additional comments?
Just wanna do a shout out to Hawaiian south shore Surf for the aloha you have shown me being from another island we don’t have a lot of board selections
here so I’m super stoked that Hawaiian south shore was able to meet my needs. Thanks again guys!
