A Modern Take on an Old Shape, Proven by World Champ Yago Dora
Quick Answer
The Lost Formula 1 is a modern round pin shortboard that combines Julian Wilson's proven F1 design with Driver 3.0 elements. World champion Yago Dora won both Trestles and the 2025 world title riding this board, proving its dominance in powerful Hawaiian and world tour conditions. Available in sizes 5'4" to 6'8" at Hawaiian South Shore.
40 Years of Round Pin Heritage
Round pin shortboards have been a staple of every power surfer's quiver for more than 40 years. Ever since Simon Anderson unveiled his thruster design at pumping Bells Beach in 1981, this design has been the go-to for powerful carves and control in hollow or larger waves—exactly the type of surfing we are used to here in Hawaii. The Formula 1 model from …Lost continues that tradition with a modern take on the round pin shortie. Built for fluid, progressive surfing in everything from rippable peaks to large, hollow walls, this is the board to clean up your style and bring you back to the fundamentals—and then build on them with another level of progression.
Modern Design Elements
The Formula 1 is an updated version of Julian Wilson's F1 model from the early 2010s, which he used to dominate his years on tour. It has been blended with many of the modern elements of the Driver 3.0, resulting in the latest high-performance round pin from …Lost. Set back a bit more than the Driver 3.0, the updated Formula 1 gets added drive and speed from its progressive outline, which is blended with a deep single to double concave bottom contour. At the same time, this concave setup works with the round pin to add extra bite through all types of turns, from carves to bottom turns, providing control and flow for aggressive riders who are pushing their boards to the limit. The thick centerline adds a bit of extra volume, while tapered rails provide control and maneuverability. Meanwhile, added nose rocker and reduced tail rocker refine the ride, while a thin tail block provides extra bite and responsiveness.
From Team Session to World Title
This board is the result of a …Lost team rider session at Trestles in 2024. Working through a bunch of old …Lost shapes, Yago Dora and Cole Houshmand found that Julian Wilson's old boards were still relevant and worked great. Matt Biolos started tweaking the design in pursuit of an updated, modern take on the F1, and Cole Houshmand ended up surfing a number of 2025 world tour events on the new version, ultimately winning in Brazil on it. Yago was excited by the board's potential, and Biolos built him a couple of prototypes in his personal dimensions. The boards went so well that Yago ended up swapping out his normal boards for the updated Formula 1 at Trestles, where he ended up winning on a design that was essentially unproven and brand new to him. Yago then went on to win the world title later in 2025, cementing the dominance of this new shape.
Yago's Championship Victory
In celebration of Yago's world championship, …Lost is releasing the Formula 1 Round Pin in Yago's dimensions so that everyday surfers can see what all the fuss is about. The first release of the updated Formula 1 is a series of round tails in a variety of sizes, based on Yago's Lowers-winning model, which was 6'0" x 19" x 2.5" at 29.75 liters.
