This is a longboard for riders who don't want to choose between glide and response.

THE GEM is built for the full working range of longboard surf — clean peeling walls where you can step forward and ride the nose, slower lined-up days where the board needs to generate its own speed, and stronger surf with real shoulder where carving and holding a rail matter. Shortboard-style concaves keep water moving through weak sections, and the diamond tail gives enough pivot to surf steeper, more critical walls without washing out. Hawaii's range of mellow summer lines and heavier winter swells covers the exact window this board is designed for, which is why a one-board-quiver longboard earns its place on the rack.

THE GEM blends two design languages deliberately. Dan Mann took a classic longboard outline — long, wide, and glide-heavy — and added shortboard-style concaves through the length of the board. A deep single concave runs through the nose to create a defined pocket for traditional trim and nose rides, then transitions into a deep double concave through the tail to channel water and build speed. The diamond tail shortens the rail line at the back end for tighter pivot and quicker turning than a rounded pin, without giving up the hold and drive of a straighter tail. A hard edge through the back sharpens release on turns and gives the board its performance bite. The fin placements match what Taylor uses across his signature line, so the board's response stays familiar to anyone already riding his shapes.

Construction is Firewire's Helium Core, built specifically for longboards with a variable flex I-beam stringer that tapers thinner through the nose and wider through the tail — so the board flexes softly where you want glide and stiffens where you want drive. Paulownia and balsa wood rails run the full length of the board to control that flex, and a wooden nosecap added for noseriding creates a stable platform for stepping to the front. The EPS foam core keeps the board light and lively underfoot, and the Helium build is known for quick rebound out of turns — the board loads up and springs back instead of sitting flat.
