SUB DRIVER 3.0
SWALLOWTAIL
Your easier-to-ride shortboard for small to slightly overhead punchy waves. Excels where other performance boards fail.
How It Surfs
• Wide point set back creates a hip that makes the board really easy to turn
• Quick off the bottom and wraps around when you put it on rail
• Low tail rocker makes it fast down the line
• Deep single to double concave with vee accelerates you through sections
Swallowtail Advantages
• Keeps width for speed but cuts surface area so it still pivots
• Provides drive and grip while retaining control
• Rail line creates balanced fulcrum for effortless turns
Cole Houshmand and Kade Matson both rode these to qualify for the World Tour.

SUB DRIVER 3.0 DESCRIPTION
WHAT IS LOST SUB DRIVER 3.0 SWALLOW
Lost Sub Driver 3.0 Swallow Tail - Performance Surfboard
Key Advantages
- 🚀 Lightning-Fast Small Wave Performance - Low tail rocker and generous concave deliver instant speed generation
- 🎯 Effortless Maneuverability - Wide point set back creates balanced pivot for turns anywhere on the wave
- 🏄♂️ Pro-Level Design Made Accessible - Same DNA as boards used by Cole Houshmand, Kade Matson, and Michael Rodrigues
- ⚡ Swallow Tail Advantage - Reduces surface area while maintaining width for drive, grip, and speed
Perfect For You If
✓ You want to stay surfing on a performance shortboard in average to sub-par surf rather than switching to a fish or hybrid
✓ You're an intermediate to advanced surfer seeking speed and control in small wave conditions
✓ You compete in small wave contests or want that competitive edge
✓ You prefer riding 1"-2" shorter than traditional performance boards while gaining width
✓ You surf mushy points, weak broken-up beach breaks regularly
Technology Behind the Magic
Bottom Contours: Deep single concave through the center, maxing out between the feet, then hyper-extends with plenty of double concave through the tail, with distinctive vee behind the rear fin
Rocker Profile: Low fast tail rocker drives from the rear foot, balanced with moderate entry rocker that is quick off the bottom and easily wraps around when put on rail or laying into cutbacks
Rail Design: Curvy rail line creating concave and vee out the back - the rail rocker mirrors the outline hip, combining to provide a balanced fulcrum to initiate effortless turns anywhere on the wave
Outline: Generously proportioned performance outline with wide point noticeably set back, creating a hip between the feet, that swoops into a moderately wide swallow
Real-World Performance
Wave Conditions: Excels where other performance boards fail in small wave conditions
Sweet Spot: Small to average surf, particularly effective in average to sub-par surf
Speed Generation: Low tail rocker and generous width and concave get it up to speed quickly with down the line speed
Turning: Very maneuverable board due to both rail line and outline having the apex curve set back between the feet
Professional Validation: Cole Houshmand and Kade Matson both relied on swallow tail Sub Drivers to qualify for the WT. Michael Rodrigues regularly rips them, as does East Coast stalwart Michael Dunphy and the OG Kolohe
Why Choose This Product
Evolution of a Legend - The Sub Driver OG and 2.0 have long been staples of amateur, WQS and Challenger Series competitors' quivers since young Kolohe Andino used them to rampage through the Amateur and QS ranks
Longstanding Favorite - A favorite of Average Joes and countless Bros on both East and West Coasts to stay surfing on a performance shortboard on a level they can boast
Proven Development - Based off rider feedback and the consistently large amount of custom orders for swallow tailed Sub Drivers, the updated design was released as a swallow tail first
Performance Where Others Fail - A small wave performance workhorse weapon that excels where other performance boards fail

LOST LIGHTSPEED II CONSTRUCTION
What is Lost Lightspeed II Construction?
Lightspeed II is Lost Surfboards' latest proprietary construction technology that builds upon the foundation of their original Lightspeed design while introducing significant material improvements. Lightspeed II maintains the same foundation as the original Lightspeed but introduces new materials for ultra-light and ultra-fast performance.
The revolutionary aspect of Lightspeed II lies in its complete elimination of carbon fiber components. Instead, Lost has developed a custom-engineered combination of high-tensile S-Glass and Innegra composite materials that deliver what the original Lightspeed promised, but with dramatically improved ride characteristics.
The Foundation: Same Base as Original Lightspeed
Lightspeed II maintains the same foundation as the original Lightspeed technology, providing the essential platform for the new material innovations.
Revolutionary Material Technology: S-Glass and Innegra
The heart of Lightspeed II's innovation lies in its advanced material composition. Lost has replaced every carbon component from the original Lightspeed with carefully engineered alternatives that provide superior performance characteristics.
High-Tensile S-Glass Construction
S-Glass offers increased bend range before creasing or buckling compared to carbon, delivering longer board life under pressure. This represents a significant advantage in terms of durability and longevity.
Innegra Composite Integration
Innegra fibers are the secret weapon in Lightspeed II's arsenal. These advanced composite fibers are specifically engineered for dampening vibrations and reducing the harsh, chattery feel that many high-performance epoxy boards can exhibit. The result is a board that maintains all the speed and responsiveness you expect while delivering a smoother, more controlled ride.
Key Performance Improvements Over Original Lightspeed
Reduced Chatter & Twitch
The Innegra composite specifically targets the rigid, snappy feel often associated with carbon construction, creating a notably smoother ride overall. This addresses one of the main criticisms of high-performance epoxy constructions.
Improved Flex Pattern
S-Glass offers a more forgiving flex than carbon fiber, providing better energy return and a more natural feel underfoot. The dampened flex pattern works harmoniously with your surfing rather than fighting against it.
Enhanced Durability
S-Glass provides more flex before failure than carbon fiber, meaning your board can withstand greater stress without permanent damage. This translates to longer board life under aggressive surfing conditions.
Environmental Benefits
By eliminating all carbon components, Lightspeed II addresses the growing demand for more sustainable construction methods, earning Lost's tongue-in-cheek "Carbon Neutral" designation.
LOST BLACKSHEEP CONSTRUCTION
Matt Biolos and the team at LOST Surfboards have introduced their innovation in surfboard construction: Black Sheep Technology.
This groundbreaking approach to carbon fiber construction delivers an electric, lively feel while maintaining durability and performance.
The defining feature of Black Sheep boards is their unique tri-directional carbon fiber deck wrap. Unlike traditional carbon constructions, this specialized layup uses three distinct directional layers: one running nose to tail and two at opposing 45-degree angles. This configuration creates a responsive flex pattern while preventing the board from becoming too stiff.
"We wanted to make a really pliable, forgiving, lively kind of playful construction," explains Biolos. The construction keeps carbon only on the deck, stopping at the rails to maintain torsional flex and prevent the board from becoming overly rigid.
Each Black Sheep board features:
- 1.5-pound EPS core
- Double-layered fiberglass bottom
- Tri-directional carbon fiber deck
- Non-crimp weave technology for optimal strength
The result? A lightweight, responsive board that maintains durability while delivering performance in various conditions. Pro surfers are already embracing the technology, with extensive testing at wave pools and in ocean conditions showing promising results.
LOST PU CONSTRUCTION
What Is a PU Surfboard?
Classic Feel. Trusted Build. Time-Tested Performance.
A PU surfboard, short for polyurethane, refers to a surfboard shaped from a polyurethane foam core and laminated with fiberglass cloth using polyester resin. This construction has been the gold standard for decades and remains a favorite among surfers who value that classic board feel. Lost Surfboards and many other leading shapers still use PU for its balanced performance, durability, and smooth flex pattern—especially in everyday conditions and bigger, choppier waves.
Even with the rise of lighter epoxy builds, PU remains a solid go-to for those who want predictable, powerful performance underfoot. Whether you're carving up solid reef breaks or chasing the feel of your first board, PU construction delivers.
Key Characteristics of PU Surfboards
- PU foam combined with fiberglass and polyester resin creates a forgiving flex pattern. This provides a smoother rail-to-rail transition that feels “buttery” and comfortable—especially appreciated in more critical or textured wave conditions.
- PU boards tend to be heavier than EPS/Epoxy models, which many surfers appreciate for added drive and momentum down the line. This weight also helps the board handle well in windy or choppy surf.
- Dings? No big deal. PU/poly boards are easy to repair at home or by any surf shop, with widely available materials and lower costs compared to epoxy builds.
- Most traditional shortboards and performance boards—including many from Lost, Channel Islands, and Pyzel—were originally designed around PU blanks. That legacy continues with refined shapes and reliable performance today.
When Should You Choose a PU Surfboard?
A PU board is often the best option if:
- classic surf feel with smooth drive and power.
- overhead surf, reef breaks, or textured ocean conditions.
- a bit of extra weight underfoot for better control on the face.
PU constructions are ideal for surfers who prioritize control and consistency over lightweight responsiveness. From seasoned shortboarders to everyday surfers riding waves across Hawaii, PU boards continue to be a trusted option for a reason.
Why We Still Love PU
At Hawaiian South Shore, we believe there’s no “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to boards—but PU surfboards hold a unique place in surf culture. They’re the go-to choice for reliable performance, time-tested in waves around the world, and especially dialed for Hawaii’s variable conditions.
