Firewire Surfboards
This week features four exceptional Firewire surfboards spanning performance shortboards to mid-length shapes. Each board utilizes Firewire's advanced construction technologies for durability and performance that outlasts traditional boards.
Firewire Boss Up Ibolic — Performance Mid-Length
The Boss Up emerges as the natural progression from the SBoss, designed for surfers seeking a performance mid-length board that inherits the exceptional design features of its predecessor. With 18 months of development, the Boss Up delivers outstanding performance, paddling ease, and versatility in various wave conditions.
The tuned rocker draws inspiration from performance longboards like the TJ Pro and V, fine-tuned for maximum performance without sacrificing glide or paddle speed. The five-fin setup comes standard, though it's primarily ridden as a quad with fin placement allowing for the same quads as the SBoss. True to the Slater Design ethos, this board stands out with both its looks and performance.
Best For:
Surfers wanting easy paddling and wave catching across a wide range of conditions. The customizable fin configuration lets you tailor the board's handling to your preference.

Firewire Mashup Helium — Rob Machado + Dan Mann Collaboration
Rob Machado's Seaside and Dan Mann's Spitfire are two of the most popular designs in the Firewire quiver. The Mashup is exactly what it sounds like — a board created by blending the best of their two designs. This high-volume groveler features tapered, step-down rails that add more control in solid waves, making this board an all-rounder in every sense.
The vee through the tail gives way to classic single concave in the middle, but with a twist — the single concave breaks into a double barrel with a second inset vee along the stringer. This allows the board to roll from rail to rail easily while providing snap and drive. The Helium construction results in a super strong, lightweight, responsive board that accelerates down the line and through turns.
Available between 5'2" and 6'6", the Mashup is meant to be surfed a few inches shorter than your normal surfboard and is one of the most popular designs in the current Firewire lineup. The five fin boxes let you surf it as twin, quad, thruster, 2+1, or even quad+nubster.
Best For:
Surfers wanting one board that handles everything from small mushy days to solid overhead surf. The versatile fin options make it adaptable to any conditions.
Firewire Dominator Pro Helium — Dan Mann's Performance Shape
The Dominator Pro is a performance-oriented evolution of the popular Dominator 2.0 shape, designed by master shaper Dan Mann for surfers ready to elevate their game. Featuring Firewire's renowned Helium construction, this board provides the perfect balance of performance and durability with enhanced responsiveness through a carefully engineered shape.
The Dominator Pro truly comes alive in chest-high and above conditions. While it performs well in various wave types from knee-high to overhead, its sweet spot is in punchy waves with some curve to them. From small punchy beach breaks to head-high and overhead pockety waves, this board is designed to sit tight in the pocket and deliver responsive performance when the waves have some energy.
The moderate increase in rocker curve from nose to tail gives additional performance capabilities in steeper wave faces. The bottom contour features slightly more single concave under the front foot flowing into a double barrel concave through the fins, transitioning to a vee out the tip of the tail — all working together to enhance speed and control in quality conditions.
Best For:
Good surfers looking to up their game who still want a touch of forgiveness. Ideal for surf trips and quality wave days where you need a refined board for punchy conditions.
Taylor Jensen Twinzer Helium — Turns Like a Twin, Drives Like a Quad
The TJ Twinzer design is a modified twin-fin that has two additional small side bite fins installed in front of the twin fins and closer to the rail — sort of like a reverse quad setup. This concept was first created in 1988 by Wil Jobson and proven the next year by Martin Potter, who won six events and the world title with a twinzer in his quiver.
The twinzer's popularity peaked in the 1990s as surfers discovered the forward canard fins direct water to the foiled side of the larger twin fins, reducing cavitation and that slidey feel that twin fins are notorious for. Stu Kenson started shaping twinzers in 1989 and perfected his design while shaping under Rusty Preisendorfer. Recently, the twinzer has made a major comeback — close to 80 percent of all boards Stu sells today are twinzers.
Now available at Hawaiian South Shore, the full-outline, round-pin board is a drivey, fast, front-footed speed machine that maintains its control and performance thanks to Stu's signature twinzer fin set and magic placement. Available in Helium construction, sizes from 6'8" to 7'4", with Futures fin boxes.
Best For:
Mid-length enthusiasts wanting the speed and looseness of a twin with the drive and hold of a quad. Perfect for point breaks and open-face waves where you want to generate speed and flow.

Firewire Fins & Accessories
Upgrade your setup with signature fins from two of surfing's greatest icons — Kelly Slater and Rob Machado. These fins represent decades of professional competition refinement and are now available at Hawaiian South Shore.
Kelly Slater's KSR 5-Fin Set
This is Kelly Slater's raked template designed to maximize hold and generate drive — the complimentary opposite to the KS1 pivot template. Kelly prefers to ride size Large in smaller waves and Medium in bigger waves. The rake refers to how far back the tip of the fin reaches beyond the base, translating into more drive and wider, more drawn-out turns. Single Tab variants are compatible with Futures' fin system.
Kelly Slater's KSR Thruster
Kelly Slater's newest fin set features the raked template designed for wide arcs on the shoulder and reliable hold down-the-line. The fin template maximizes hold and generates drive, making it the ideal choice for surfers who want to draw longer lines and maintain speed through turns.
Rob Machado Seaside Quad — Black Bamboo
The Seaside Quad design evolved from the Go Fish model, initially using keel fins. In 2018, a unique quad fin set was developed for the Seaside, inspired by twin keel fins rather than thrusters. This set retains the drive and base feel of keel fins while offering balanced performance across various surfboard shapes.
The updated design features more raked front fins and upright quad trailers for enhanced carving and pivoting abilities. The new Machado Seaside Quad set is 15% lighter than previous versions, weighing just 0.6 lbs per set, with a stiffer, fuller foil and less cant in the front fins for a larger sweet spot and versatile maneuvering.

Kelly Slater 5-Piece Deckpad
The Action Pad gives you Kelly's favorite arch design, plus a picture of his favorite dog — Action. You'll see the elements he designed himself: a chopped 'V' into the tail kick to prevent your leash from catching in the middle, and a slit arch that's just as wide as standard 3 and 5-piece arch pads but lower for that exact feel Kelly was chasing.
The square grooved edges on either side of the parallel slits give you a 'hooked in' feeling that other arch supports don't. The 5-piece design gives you options — ride either a longer pad or a shorter pad depending on how you space the side pieces. Diamond tread provides grip to push hard through hacks and increase speed through every turn. Dimensions: 12.65" W x 13.5" H with 3M adhesive backing.
