BIG RIG

DRIVER

Based on Lost’s Driver 3.0—their go-to contest shortboard used by amateurs and pros daily. Scaled up so bigger and older surfers get that same high-performance feel.

How It Surfs

• Paddle power and wave-catching ability so you actually get waves in lineups
• Relaxed entry rocker with filled-in nose gives you effortless glide
• Turns and carves like Driver 3.0 despite larger dimensions

Key Design Advantages

• Same rocker, concaves, and rail design as elite Driver series—nothing dumbed down
• Thicker centerline with rolled deck delivers paddle power without boxy feel
• Deep single to double concave keeps it fast and responsive under foot

Built from Cole Houshmand’s boards. First large-scale pro shortboard since El Patron in 2018.

For 175–190lb+ surfers who still rip

Knee-high to well overhead country waves

BIG RIG DRIVER

The BIG RIG is a scaled-up, high-volume Pro-formance shortboard designed specifically for larger and aging surfers who want to skip the hybrids or mid-lengths and keep ripping on a high-performance shape.Directly derived from the Driver 2.0 and 3.0, it packs extra volume into a thicker centerline with rolled rails and a slightly relaxed entry rocker for easier paddling and effortless speed creation.

WHO

The Big Rig Driver is for surfers who want shortboard performance without the paddle struggle.

  • Larger or heavier surfers who need more volume under them
  • Older surfers who aren't in the water as often and have lost some paddle strength
  • Former shortboarders stepping back up from a mid-length or hybrid
  • Once-or-twice-a-week surfers who need a board that works with them, not against them
  • Mid-length riders who want shortboard performance but still need glide and easy wave-catching
  • Surfers newer to shortboarding who want that feel but find standard performance boards too demanding

If paddling and catching waves is the obstacle — not your surfing — this board removes it.

WHEN

Works in everyday conditions from knee-high to well overhead. In Hawaii, where surf varies day to day and lineups can get crowded, the extra paddle volume and wave-catching ability make a real difference — you spend less energy fighting for position and more time actually surfing. It's not a step-up gun. It's a board you can reach for on any given day.

WHAT

A direct scale-up of Lost's Driver 3.0 — not a dumbed-down hybrid. The relaxed entry rocker and filled-in nose are the key design moves — they give the board a glide and paddle ease closer to a mid-length, while the continuous rocker accelerates through the tail for real shortboard drive down the line. That combination also makes it easier to drop into steeper, bowlier waves without getting pitched.

Built on the same rocker, concaves, and rail shape as the Driver 3.0, with a thicker centerline, rolled deck, single-to-double concave through the tail, and a squash tail. Inspired by the boards Lost has been building for pro surfer Cole Houshmand (6'4", 220 lbs) and scaled for everyday surfers.

Big Rig Driver

What wave conditions is the Big Rig Driver best for?

Is this board suitable for older surfers who still want performance?

モットーは「Fight fight fight to that dying last light!(最後の光が消えるまで戦え!)」

How does the paddle power compare to standard shortboards?

「Big Rig Driver」

Customer Reviews

Overall rating: 5.0 / 5 from 6 reviews.

I picked up the Lost Big Rig in the LightSpeed (epoxy) construction. I’m 2 meters tall (around 6'6") and 80 kg (about 175 lbs). I was looking for something that catches waves easily but still gives you that genuine, high-performance shortboard feel, and this board delivers 100%. Even though I'm not an advanced pro surfer, I love a board that responds quickly, and the Big Rig is super reactive and fast. We got some good swell while I was out in the water, and the board handled it amazingly. Paddle power is great, and it glides into waves with ease. The epoxy construction feels incredible underfoot—so light and lively. I’ve been spending so much time laying down paddling in the lineup that I’m even starting to leave a few rib pressure dents on the deck! If you're a taller surfer looking for speed, paddle ease, and crisp shortboard performance, this board is an absolute winner. Huge thanks to the team for setting me up right!

Customer photo review of LOST Big Rig Driver Lightspeed II Round Tail - 6’5 V39.2 - FUTURES

Picked up a 6’5 Lost Big Rig Driver squash tail in Light Speed construction. The board turns good, paddles good and gets into waves really well. I’m a fifty something weekend warrior, so been riding a lot of bigger boards lately (i.e midlengths) for paddling and wave catching advantage, but these boards can have their disadvantages. Didn’t realize how much I missed shortboarding until I picked up this board. It duck dives really well too which helps, especially with the awesome summer we’ve been having. Tried several Futures thruster setups (John John Scimitar and Am2 Techflex) but the Craig Anderson Blackstix is my favorite so far. Thanks to Dave, Sean and the Hawaiian South Shore Team for the awesome customer service!

Store owner replied: Aloha Dane, Thanks so much for the detailed review! It’s awesome to hear the 6’5 Lost Big Rig Driver brought that true shortboard feel back into your lineup without sacrificing paddle power. Dave, Sean, and the whole Hawaiian South Shore crew really appreciate the kind words and your support. Enjoy the board!

Customer video review of LOST Big Rig Driver PU Round Tail 6'3 FUTURES

I'm 6'1", 210 lbs, and I recently picked up the Lost Big Rig (6'3" squash tail in PU construction, coming in at 37 liters). I’ve had it for about two months now and have been riding it consistently in town. We've had everything from knee-high grovelers to solid 4-foot+ swells, and this board handles it all. It paddles and floats incredibly well, but it still feels like a proper high-performance shortboard. Matt Biolos did an amazing job hiding the volume on this thing—the rails are beautifully foiled out, so it never feels bulky and turns on a dime. Naturally, I’m a back-footed surfer, but I’ve noticed the Big Rig has a massive sweet spot, so you don't have to be perfectly positioned to get it to react. I ride it as a thruster using the Futures John John Florence large fins, which are perfect for a heavier surfer like me to push hard against without slipping out.

Customer video review of LOST Big Rig Driver PU (5'10 - 6'6) Rounded Squash

I bought the Big Rig 5'11 about two months ago and have been riding it throughout the winter. It’s been a great board. The added volume makes it way easier to paddle—I'm kind of lazy, so it helps when getting out in the lineup. I don't have to work as hard and I'm getting a bunch of waves. I was running it with the Mayhem large fins and it was super fun and super grabby. I’ve ridden it in conditions from two feet at Lighthouse up to an eight-foot day at Off the Wall.

Customer video review of LOST Big Rig Driver PU (5'10 - 6'6) Rounded Squash

The Big Rig 6'6" in Lightspeed construction is pretty epic. I love it—for a taller guy like me, it really helps me catch waves. I get more of that volume to get that easy catch. I've been riding it as a thruster setup. It's been great.
