New Blak Bear Deck Pads
Three new pro-model deck pads from Blak Bear just landed at our Honolulu surf shop, each priced at $48 and each built around a narrow center arch for a locked-in back foot. Blak Bear builds its pads around specific pro riders rather than a single one-size-fits-all shape, which is why the three colorways below actually ride differently even though they share the same core construction. If you're not sure which one matches your board and stance, our staff can walk you through the differences in person, or you can use the "best for" notes below as a starting point.
The Grom — Black
A 3-piece traction pad with a narrow center arch, scaled down to fit high-performance shortboards. Simple, low-profile, black colorway that matches almost any deck. At $48, it's the most straightforward of the three new Blak Bear pads — no pro-model graphics, just a clean traction setup for a board that's already dialed in.
Best for: shortboard riders who want a tighter, more locked-in back foot without extra bulk.
The Clayback — Clay Marzo Pro Model
Designed with Clay Marzo, the Clayback uses the same 3-piece, narrow-arch layout to help the back foot regain control after aggressive rail-to-rail transitions. Jungle colorway, $48. Marzo's surfing is built around fast, radical direction changes, and this pad is shaped around that demand rather than a generic traction template.
Best for: progressive surfers who load the tail hard in radical turns.
The Big Cat — Reef McIntosh Pro Model
Built for the bigger surfer with wider feet. A 3-piece traction pad with a flat, wide center arch and a 2.5cm kick, secured with 3M glue so it stays put through wipeouts and long sessions. Also $48.
Best for: larger-framed riders who need more surface area and a firmer kick.

The Outlier X is a performance egg co-designed by CJ Nelson and Ryan Engle — built to paddle and catch waves like a much bigger board while surfing like a modern shortboard, from knee-high junk to double-overhead surf on a single outline.
It's available in three sizes:
- 6'3 x 21 1/4 x 2 5/8, V39.02 — $1,120
- 6'6 x 21 1/2 x 2 3/4, V42.82 — $1,150
- 6'9 x 21 3/4 x 2 7/8, V47 — available in-store at the shop
Not sure about size? Demo boards are on hand in 6'3 and 6'6 (Volan), and both are also available to rent at $45/night.

Futures Fins Restocked
Four Futures fin sets landed this week across different constructions and templates, so there's a fit whether you're running a thruster, a quad, or a true twin.
Al Merrick AM1 — Honeycomb Medium Rake
Designed by Al Merrick of Channel Islands, the AM1 is a medium thruster set in the Rake template. A wider base adds drive through turns while a smaller center fin keeps things maneuverable. Honeycomb construction, 145–195 lb riders. $145.
Best for: high-performance thruster riders who want more drive through turns without giving up maneuverability.
F4 Legacy 5-Fin — Honeycomb Small Neutral
A small 5-fin set in the Neutral template, built to ride as either a thruster or a quad. Honeycomb construction for a balanced, all-around feel. 105–155 lb riders. $185.

EN Reverse Twin — 3/2 Fiberglass, Grey

What's the fastest way to get a board shipped from Hawaiian South Shore?
Order by 5:30 PM Hawaii time and we drop your package off at the post office that same night. Honolulu addresses typically see delivery in 1–2 days; Neighbor Islands run 2–3 days; West Coast addresses run 3–5 days; East Coast addresses run 4–6 days. Board shipping is a flat $50 to the Neighbor Islands or the Mainland, regardless of board size, and boards under 6'0 headed to a Neighbor Island can go FedEx door-to-door instead for the same flat rate.
Do I need to buy Blak Bear's pro-model pad to match a specific board?
No — all three new Blak Bear pads share the same core 3-piece, narrow-arch construction. The pro-model versions (Clayback, Big Cat) reflect the riding style and foot size of the surfer they were built with, but any of the three will work on a standard shortboard deck. If you're unsure, come by the shop and we'll help you match the pad to your board and stance.
Is the free shipping threshold the same for boards and accessories?
No. Free shipping applies to clothing and surf accessories on orders of $150 or more (with the standard exceptions: heavy soft racks, board bags, hoodies, flannels, and similar bulky items). Surfboards ship under the separate flat-rate board shipping described above, not the $150 threshold.
