The Big Rig Driver from …Lost A High-Performance Shortboard for Bigger, Older Rippers

Introduction: A Performance Board for Bigger Riders

The Driver has been one of …Lost's most enduring high-performance shapes, with the Driver 3.0 squash representing the peak of performance design. But what about for older or bigger guys who can't quite float the Driver 3.0 or generate enough speed on their own to make the board go? Guys who have sized up from the standard shortboard, but aren't ready to give up the shred and transition to a fish, mid-length, or hybrid? That's where the Big Rig Driver comes in.

Key Design Features & Modifications

Developed with the input of Cole Houschmand, the world tour's biggest talent (literally!) at 6'4" and 220 pounds, the Big Rig is a scaled-up version of the Driver 3.0, with a few tweaks to make it paddle faster and generate more of its own speed down the line. The Big Rig has lower entry rocker than the Driver 3.0, giving it better paddle speed and down-the-line drive. The nose is a bit wider as well, which keeps the rails a bit more parallel, adding to that down-the-line speed. A straighter deck line and added foam in the front third provide better float and increased volume, which adds a bit more paddle oomph. Put together, these tweaks take a refined high-performance shape and make it a bit friendlier for larger, older surfers who don't have the same paddle power and ability to generate speed as they did when they were younger.

Design Modifications from Driver 3.0:

Lower Entry Rocker: Better paddle speed and down-the-line drive

Wider Nose: More parallel rails for increased speed

Straighter Deck Line: Better float and volume distribution

Added Front-Third Foam: Improved paddle power

Performance That Still Shreds

The most important thing, however, is that the Big Rig is a user-friendly board that still shreds. It has the same aggressive tail rocker and modern performance bottom contours (deep concave to double concave) as the Driver 3.0, coupled with the same rounded squash tail that lends itself to aggressive turns without compromising flow. While the lightweight surfers on tour are riding high-performance shred sticks, this is a high-performance plank that fits perfectly under the feet of beefier shredders.

Construction Options

The Big Rig Driver comes standard as a thruster and is available in both Lightspeed II and the polyurethane construction used in the Pro-formance series of boards popular with world tour surfers. The poly boards are also available in round tail, for those that like a cleaner carving line instead of the more snap-friendly rounded squash. Either way, this is the ultimate performance shortboard for big guys—the first leveled-up shortboard that …Lost has made since the El Patron in 2018 (and, by most accounts, superior to its predecessor in nearly all ways).

Available Construction Types:

Lightspeed II: Lightweight EPS foam with carbon fiber and Innegra for enhanced responsiveness and durability

Polyurethane (PU): Traditional construction with classic flex characteristics preferred by world tour surfers
