GX1000
The CJ Nelson GX1000 is a high-performance longboard and speed shape designed by CJ Nelson with Ryan Engle, built to mix classic logging with hard-charging turns off the tail. It pairs a concave nose for lift with performance rails and a modest HP longboard rocker, making it the choice for longboarders who want to surf both ends of the board without compromise.
WHO
The GX1000 is for the longboarder who wants speed, maneuverability, and real performance off the tail without giving up the ability to walk and noseride.
- The progressive longboarder who wants to surf a longboard the way most people surf a shortboard — off the tail, driving hard, linking turns
- The experienced longboarder looking for a faster, more responsive board than a traditional log
- The surfer who loves classic logging but wants the freedom to carve and snap when the wave calls for it
- The all-around longboarder who wants one high-performance board that handles a wide range of conditions
- The traveling longboarder who needs a board that paddles well, turns tight, and can push hard when the surf has real shape and speed
This is the longboard for the surfer who doesn't want to choose between style and performance.
WHEN
The GX1000 is built for the wide range of conditions where a longboarder wants to do more than cruise. It performs in softer, lined-up waves where its paddle power and glide let it catch everything, and it comes alive in cleaner waves with real shape — where the concave nose gives you a platform for tip rides and the performance rails and tail rocker let you drive hard off the bottom and come back down with speed. When conditions have size and power, the tighter outline and responsive rocker let the board hold on steeper faces and carve where a traditional log would slide out. It's the longboard that rewards surfers who want to push the wave, not just ride along with it.
WHAT
The GX1000 is built around a high-performance longboard template shaped to maximize speed and control. A concave runs through the nose, generating lift and giving you a defined platform for noserides and tip time. The modest HP longboard rocker — flatter through the middle, with kick in the tail — creates that balance CJ talks about: enough flat through the belly to glide and generate speed, enough tail rocker to turn tight and release off the top. The performance rails are narrower and more defined than a traditional log's 50/50 shape, which is what lets the board hold through hard carves and actually drive through turns instead of sliding through them. The 2+1 fin configuration means you can run it as a single fin for looser, more traditional feel, or drop in side bites for added drive and hold when the surf picks up.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I ride the GX1000 as a single fin or a 2+1?
Both work, and the setup you choose shapes how the board surfs. Running it as a single fin pulls the GX1000 toward looser, more classic feel — easier pivot turns, a freer ride through trim, and a more forgiving glide. Dropping in side bites and going 2+1 tightens everything up: you get more drive off the bottom, more hold on the face in steeper or more powerful waves, and better response when you're pushing turns off the tail. A lot of GX1000 owners keep both setups on hand and switch depending on conditions — single fin for cleaner, softer days when they want to trim and step forward, 2+1 for days with more size and shape when they want to surf it harder. The board is designed to work in either setup, which is a big part of what makes it versatile.
Is the GX1000 a noserider or a high-performance longboard?
It's built to do both, but it's fundamentally a high-performance longboard first. The concave nose, paddle power, and overall length give it real noseriding capability — you can step forward, get to the tip, and hold position. What separates it from a dedicated noserider is what happens when you step back to the tail: the performance rails, HP rocker, and 2+1 fin setup let it turn hard, hold through carves, and drive off the bottom with the kind of response you'd expect from a shorter, more performance-focused shape. If your priority is long, drawn-out noserides in small, clean waves, a dedicated noserider will do that better. If you want a longboard that noserides well and surfs like a performance board off the tail, the GX1000 is exactly that.
What size GX1000 should I order?
GX1000 sizing depends on your weight, skill level, the conditions you surf most, and how you want to ride it. Lighter and more progressive surfers tend to lean toward the 9'0" for a tighter, faster ride, mid-weight surfers generally go with the 9'4" as the most versatile size, and heavier surfers or riders prioritizing paddle power usually choose the 9'8". When you reach out, include your current board dimensions and volume, how you want to ride the GX1000 (more traditional noseriding, more performance off the tail, or a balance of both), the type of breaks you surf most (beach break, reef break, point break), how often you surf, and your location — location affects shipping options and helps us give you accurate delivery information.
