LOST CALIFORNIA TWIN

The Lost California Twin is a modern twin-fin fish built from a collaboration between 4x World Champion Mark Richards and Matt Biolos of ...Lost. It pairs MR's legendary speed and rail precision with Biolos's small-wave design instincts, producing a board that's fast, loose, and genuinely fun to surf.

WHO

The California Twin was made for surfers who want something more alive than a standard fish but more forgiving than a performance shortboard.

  • The intermediate surfer ready to step up from a basic fish and start surfing with more commitment
  • The experienced surfer who wants a dedicated small-wave board that still responds to real surfing
  • The high-performance surfer looking for a change of pace — something that generates its own speed instead of demanding it
  • The surfer who's been riding shortboards for years and wants a board that turns a frustrating day into a fun one

This board rewards the surfer who leans in, stays low, and lets the board run.

WHEN

The California Twin is built for the days most boards struggle — small, soft, and lacking power. Its low entry rocker and extra width let it lock into waves early and carry speed through sections that would stall a shortboard. When conditions pick up to head-high and hollow, the performance tail rocker and precise rails keep it in control without losing that looser, freer feel. It's the board you reach for on inconsistent days when you need something that will work with the ocean, not against it.

WHAT

The California Twin starts with MR's SuperTwin outline — a wide nose, a wide tail block, and a flat deck — then Biolos dropped the entry rocker significantly and added width throughout to maximize glide in weaker surf. The result is a board with a lot of forward float, early entry, and the kind of down-the-line momentum that makes small waves feel bigger. The single-to-double concave bottom feeds into a vee off the tail, making rail-to-rail transitions smooth and intuitive. The winged swallow tail keeps the back end loose and pivot-friendly without sacrificing drive.

In Lightspeed construction, the California Twin is noticeably snappier and more responsive than it would be in standard glassing. The EPS/epoxy layup with carbon fiber reinforcement gives it quick reflex from rail to rail and helps it maintain speed through flat sections. It surfs lively without ever feeling twitchy.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What size California Twin should I order?

Sizing the California Twin depends on your weight, your usual board dimensions, how you surf, and where you're surfing. We recommend going up 2–4 liters from your standard shortboard volume as a starting point, but the right answer is different for everyone. Contact us directly and we'll help you dial it in:

When you reach out, include your current board dimensions and volume, what construction you're considering, the type of breaks you surf most (beach break, reef break, point break), how often you surf, and your location — location affects shipping options and helps us give you accurate delivery information.

What's the difference between the California Twin and the California Twin Pin?

The California Twin has a winged swallow tail, a wider nose, and is designed to be ridden shorter. It's the looser, speedier option built for smaller surf. The California Twin Pin is a sleeker, slightly longer shape with a pin tail — designed for surfers who want more performance range and confidence in bigger, more powerful waves. If you're primarily surfing smaller conditions and want that skatey fish feel, go California Twin. If you want a board that also handles punchy, overhead surf, the Pin is worth considering.

Can the California Twin handle overhead waves?

Yes, within reason. The California Twin's performance tail rocker and MR-designed rails give it more control in larger surf than a traditional fish. It's not a step-up board and won't hold in truly powerful conditions, but surfers who know how to use it can take it into solid overhead surf and surf it well. Most riders find its sweet spot in the waist-to-head-high range, where it's genuinely exceptional.
