LOST SUB DRIVER 3.0

The Lost Sub Driver 3.0 is a small wave performance shortboard built around the proven Sub Driver lineage — updated with a refined outline, new rails, and a fuller nose for more drive in average to sub-par surf. It's the board for surfers who refuse to downgrade to a fish or hybrid when conditions are less than ideal.

WHO

The Sub Driver 3.0 is built for performance-focused surfers who want to ride a proper shortboard regardless of what the ocean gives them.

  • The intermediate to advanced surfer who loses momentum on a standard shortboard in weaker, smaller surf
  • The competitive or progression-minded surfer who needs a board that works hard when waves are soft and mushy
  • The everyday surfer who wants to surf at a high level on the average day — not just the best day
  • The surfer stepping down from their everyday shortboard who doesn't want a shape that forces them to change their technique
  • The surfer who surfs Hawaii's variable conditions regularly and needs something that connects sections when power is inconsistent

This board earns its place in the quiver by delivering shortboard performance on days when other boards park themselves in the corner.

WHEN

The Sub Driver 3.0 excels in small to overhead surf, with its sweet spot in average to below-average conditions — waist-high to a few feet overhead, soft and punchy, beach break or reef. It's specifically designed to generate speed and drive in waves that don't offer much power on their own, making it a go-to when lineups are inconsistent and sections are quick to die. In Hawaii, where days can shift between punchy short-period energy and soft, rolling walls, the Sub Driver 3.0 holds its own across a wide range of what shows up.

WHAT

The Sub Driver 3.0 is built around a wide point set noticeably back between the feet, which creates a hip in the outline before sweeping into a moderately wide swallow tail. That set-back curve is the key to the board's feel — it positions the pivot point under your back foot, making the board turn with very little effort while keeping drive through your bottom turns. The bottom contour runs a deep single concave through the center, maxing out between the feet, then extends into a double concave through the tail with a distinctive vee behind the rear fin. This combination accelerates through sections and maintains speed in weak, flat spots where other boards stall.

The entry rocker is moderate — enough to get quick off the bottom and wrap the rail through turns — balanced against a low, flat tail rocker that drives down the line fast. The swallow tail reduces surface area at the back to maintain pivot, while keeping enough width for hold and speed. Updated with a fuller nose outline, revised deck line, and refined rails compared to the Sub Driver 2.0, the 3.0 surfs closer to a true performance shortboard than any previous Sub Driver version.

CONSTRUCTION OPTIONS

PU (Polyurethane): Traditional polyurethane foam with fiberglass and polyester resin. Delivers the classic shortboard feel — flex, drive, and weight underfoot.

Lightspeed II: Lost's proprietary construction using high-tensile S-Glass and Innegra composite in place of carbon fiber. Lighter and livelier than PU, with a smoother flex that reduces chatter compared to traditional epoxy builds.

Blacksheep: Tri-directional carbon fiber deck wrap over an EPS core, stopping at the rails to preserve torsional flex. Lightweight and responsive with a lively feel.

FIN CONFIGURATIONS

Thruster (3-fin). Fins not included.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does the Sub Driver 3.0 compare to the Sub Driver 2.0?

The 3.0 is a meaningful update, not a cosmetic refresh. Biolos updated the nose outline to be fuller, relaxed the entry rocker slightly, added a bit more tail rocker, revised the deck line, and refined the rails. The result is a board that feels closer to a true performance shortboard — with more drive and hold through heavier carves — while keeping the core small wave speed the Sub Driver has always been known for. If you rode the 2.0 and felt it was occasionally skatey or lacked drive in meatier sections, the 3.0 addresses that.

How much shorter should I ride the Sub Driver 3.0 compared to my regular shortboard?

Lost recommends riding the Sub Driver 3.0 one to two inches shorter than your standard shortboard, and sizing up in width to match. The board is built wider than a performance shortboard at the same length, so going shorter keeps the volume appropriate without making the board feel clunky. For example, if you ride a 6'0" Driver 3.0, a 5'10" or 5'11" Sub Driver 3.0 is the typical starting point.

What wave conditions is the Sub Driver 3.0 designed for?

The Sub Driver 3.0 excels in small to average surf conditions. It's specifically built for high-speed surfing in smaller, everyday waves and performs where other performance boards fail. It's perfect for average to sub-par surf conditions.

How does it perform in mushy or weak waves?

The board excels in mushy points and weak, broken-up beach breaks. The low tail rocker, generous width, and concave get it up to speed quickly with down-the-line speed, making it ideal for connecting sections in less powerful surf.

What's the right size Sub Driver 3.0 for me?

Sizing the Sub Driver 3.0 correctly depends on your current board dimensions, how you surf, and the type of waves you're riding. Contact us directly and we'll help you dial it in:

When you reach out, include: your current board's length, width, thickness, and volume; your usual construction preference; whether you surf mostly beach break, reef break, or point break; how often you surf; and your location. Location helps us give you accurate shipping information and timeline.

What makes the swallow tail design special?

The swallow tail reduces surface area while providing drive and lending grip and pivot, while still retaining width for speed. This design was chosen based on rider feedback and the consistently large amount of custom orders for swallow-tailed Sub Drivers.

Who should ride this board?

It's ideal for intermediate to advanced surfers seeking a versatile performance board. The design caters to both professional competitors and everyday surfers, making it suitable for a wide range of skill levels.

Is it good for everyday surfing or just small waves?

It's perfect for everyday surfers who want the feel of a high-performance shortboard, even in average surf conditions.
