During this time, they crafted thousands of boards, each one a potential canvas for refinement and evolution. Matt Biolos, the mastermind behind LOST Surfboards, explains the journey: "Change is constant, evolution is everywhere, and everything must evolve. 1. Refined Rocker Profile: A more pulled-in nose with added rocker up front and a flatter section between the feet for enhanced speed and control.
2. Advanced Concave Design: Deeper concave through the mid-section and increased curve in the rail-line rocker under the rear foot, providing superior lift and maneuverability.
3. Innovative Wing Placement: A mellow wing aligned to work seamlessly with the front fins, enhancing turning capabilities.
4. Optimized Tail Design: Additional vee to the swallow tips and a scooped-out deckline in the tail that mirrors the bottom curve, delivering improved pocket control.

Matt Biolos and the team at LOST Surfboards have introduced their innovation in surfboard construction: Black Sheep Technology.

This groundbreaking approach to carbon fiber construction delivers an electric, lively feel while maintaining durability and performance.

The defining feature of Black Sheep boards is their unique tri-directional carbon fiber deck wrap. Unlike traditional carbon constructions, this specialized layup uses three distinct directional layers: one running nose to tail and two at opposing 45-degree angles. This configuration creates a responsive flex pattern while preventing the board from becoming too stiff.

"We wanted to make a really pliable, forgiving, lively kind of playful construction," explains Biolos. The construction keeps carbon only on the deck, stopping at the rails to maintain torsional flex and prevent the board from becoming overly rigid.

Each Black Sheep board features:

• 1.5-pound EPS core
• Double-layered fiberglass bottom
• Tri-directional carbon fiber deck
• Non-crimp weave technology for optimal strength

The result? A lightweight, responsive board that maintains durability while delivering performance in various conditions. Pro surfers are already embracing the technology, with extensive testing at wave pools and in ocean conditions showing promising results.

PU construction refers to surfboards built from polyurethane blanks with polyester resin, while PE denotes polyurethane blanks with epoxy resin.

These traditional setups remain widely used and affordable across most brands.The weight and density of the foam in PU and PE boards cause them to sit lower in the water, keeping the rail engaged and providing a sharp, "knifey" feel when carving through waves. The added weight also helps on choppy days, reducing bounce and making the board more stable.

The lower profile benefits barrel riding too, offering better hold in hollow waves. One notable characteristic of PU boards is their lively flex pattern, which shapers often try to replicate in EPS/epoxy boards using reinforcements like carbon strips or parabolic rails.
