LOST RNF TWINZER 96'er

The Lost RNF Twinzer '96er takes Matt Biolos's best-selling fish — the proven RNF '96 — and adds the TWINZER+ fin cluster for more grip, drive, and control without giving up that fast, skatey feel. It's a true high-performance fish that runs as a loose twin on playful days and locks in with real bite when the waves get bigger and more critical.

WHO

The RNF Twinzer '96er is for surfers who love the speed and freedom of a fish but want more control and drive through their turns.

  • The fish rider who wants twin-fin speed with more grip and less slide-out
  • The intermediate surfer ready to get more performance out of an alternative shape
  • The experienced shortboarder who wants a fast, fun board for weaker days that can still be pushed hard
  • The surfer curious about the twinzer concept who wants it on a proven, trusted shape rather than an experiment
  • The everyday surfer who wants one board that handles small days and steps up when the surf has real punch

This is the fish for surfers who want flow and projection in the same board.

WHEN

The RNF Twinzer '96er is built to perform across a wide band of surf — from small, weak, and gutless days where it paddles in early and carries speed through dead sections, to punchy, overhead, and more critical waves where the canards and mini-trailer give it the grip and hold to be surfed hard. The twin-based setup keeps it loose and fast when the surf is soft, while the added fins let it project off the top and hold a line when the wave has shape and power. It's a fish that works with Hawaii's full range of conditions, not just a small-wave crutch — the kind of board you can ride on a marginal day and still take out when it gets good.

WHAT

The RNF Twinzer '96er keeps the trusted RNF '96 outline — a round-nose fish with a relatively pulled-in, performance-minded tail rooted in MR-inspired twin-fin design — and builds the TWINZER+ fin cluster into it. To carry the added forward canards, Biolos widened the hip of the tail slightly and balanced it by widening the nose at the same point, so the nose and tail now measure the same width twelve inches from each tip. He also deepened the double concave through the tail for extra lift and drive. The headline feature is the fin layout itself: two standard twin boxes, two small forward canard fins, and a rear mini-trailer box. The canards sit ahead of the main fins and clean up the water flowing into them, which reduces drag and slide-out, sharpens projection, and lets the board drive harder than a standard twin while still feeling fast and free.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the TWINZER+ setup, and how does it work?

The TWINZER+ is a five-box fin cluster: two standard twin fins, two small "canard" fins set just ahead of them, and a rear mini-trailer box. The canards sit in front of the main fins and clean up the water flowing into them — they cut drag and slide-out, add projection and drive, and let the board use a little less fin area while still holding a line. In practice it feels like a twin with extra gears: the speed and freedom you expect from a twin, plus more grip and confidence through turns. The rear box is built only for a matching mini-trailer fin, so it isn't a spot for a full-size thruster fin.

How should I set up the fins for different conditions?

The board is designed to flex with the surf. On small, weak days, run it as a pure twin — or a twin with the mini-trailer — for the loosest, fastest, most playful feel. When the waves get bigger, punchier, or more critical, add the forward canards and the mini-trailer to ride the full TWINZER+, which gives you more grip, hold, and drive when you're pushing hard. A lot of riders switch between setups depending on the day, which is a big part of what makes this such a versatile fish.

What size RNF Twinzer '96er should I order?

Sizing depends on your weight, your ability, how you like to surf, and the waves you ride most. As a fish, it's commonly ridden close to or slightly below your normal shortboard length with a touch more volume for easy paddling and glide, but the right call is different for every surfer. Contact us directly and we'll help you dial it in:

When you reach out, include your current board dimensions and volume, the construction you're considering, how you want to ride it (more of a small-wave grovel board or more of a one-board quiver for mixed conditions), the type of breaks you surf most (beach break, reef break, point break), how often you surf, and your location — location affects shipping options and helps us give you accurate delivery information.

Is the RNF '96 suitable for beginners?

Yes, the RNF '96 is considered suitable for beginners as well as intermediate surfers transitioning to performance boards.

Its forgiving design allows new surfers to develop their skills without sacrificing performance, making it a great choice for those just starting out

How durable is the RNF '96 surfboard?

The Lightspeed construction of the RNF 96 is designed for durability

With proper care, surfers have reported minimal pressure dings even after a year of regular use, even among surfers weighing over 200 pounds. This makes it reliable option for frequent surfers.

The Black Sheep construction is also remarkably durable, outperforming many other high performance constructions in terms of resilience to pressure dings. The use of Triax - NCF Carbon fiber, combined with multiple layers of fiberglass, enhances overall strength and longevity.

According to one surfer, even after two years of frequent use, the deck construction holds up remarkably well, maintaining its flex and spring.
