Aloha Friday: Dan Mann's Spun Honey in 8 Sizes, Veia Travel Bags and Florence Marine X Camo
Eight Spun Honeys came in this week, one in every size from 5'4 to 6'2. That is Dan Mann's board for the days most of us actually get. Small, soft and not much push. The Veia 4 board travel bag is also back for the first time since April, and the Florence Marine X camo hoodie landed in S to 2XL. Here is what is new on the wall.
The Spun Honey Is Built for Small, Weak Days
Best for: small, soft surf when a regular shortboard just sits there
Most boards are designed for good waves. The Spun Honey is designed for the rest of them. Dan Mann gave it a low entry rocker, which means the nose is flatter, and he pushed the foam forward. Both of those help you catch waves early and keep moving once you are up.
Firewire places it between the Sweet Potato and the Dominator 2.0. It is built in Helium 2 with a 5-fin Futures setup, so you can ride it as a thruster or a quad.

Firewire Spaceship Proflex
Best for: fast, round waves where the tail has to hold
When the waves get fast and round, the Spun Honey is out of its depth. That is the Spaceship's job. Mike Woo and Kelly Slater gave it a rounded pintail, which is narrower at the back so it grips the wave instead of sliding out.

Firewire Mindcraft Ibolic 2.0
Best for: riding a shorter board without losing paddle power
Tomo and Kelly Slater built the Mindcraft so you can ride it 2 to 4 inches shorter than your usual board. The volume is still there, so you still catch waves. You just get a board that turns quicker under your feet.
