Aloha Friday Weekly Update June 05 - Firewire The Gem Is Here +9 More Arrivals

Taylor Jensen's new longboard just landed — and it's not the only thing worth knowing about this week. Here's what came in, what it does, and where to find it.

Firewire Surfboards

Three Firewire shapes are in this week — two Taylor Jensen designs and one Rob Machado mid-length. Each one is a different answer to a different question about what you want from a board.

Firewire The Gem — Taylor Jensen Longboard

Firewire The Gem Taylor Jensen longboard Helium construction Hawaiian South Shore Best for: Longboarders who want to noseride and turn on the same board

Taylor Jensen designed this board with Dan Mann, and the goal was simple: one board that does everything a longboarder wants. Full teardrop concave nose for noseriding. Vee through the middle for smooth transitions rail to rail. Double concave tail for carving when you want to snap it off the lip.

You can ride it as a single fin or go 2+1 depending on the day and the wave. The Helium construction keeps it light without sacrificing the feel underfoot. Available in 9'1" and 9'5".

Taylor Jensen won the Duct Tape Invitational on a board like this. If you want one quiver for everything from small peelers to chest-high point breaks, The Gem is worth a close look.

Firewire Special T — Taylor Jensen, Restocked

Firewire Special T Taylor Jensen Helium 2 longboard Hawaiian South Shore Best for: Longboarders who want a competitive edge in softer waves

The Special T is Taylor Jensen's signature performance longboard, built with Dan Mann. It runs a lightweight EPS core with a variable flex I-beam stringer — that combination gives you responsiveness without the stiffness you'd expect from an EPS board.

The wooden nosecap is a 2024 enhancement. It improves noseriding across more wave conditions. Soft 50/50 rails make it forgiving. The scoop nose concave adds stability when you're up on the tip. Extra tail flip gives you control in critical sections. Helium 2 construction throughout.

This one has won at the Duct Tape Invitational. It's a proven competition board that also works for anyone who surfs California beach breaks or softer rolling waves regularly.

Firewire Xtra Cado — Rob Machado Mid-Length, Restocked

Firewire Xtra Cado Rob Machado mid-length Helium 2 Hawaiian South Shore Best for: Surfers who want one board for all conditions

The Xtra Cado is Rob Machado's evolution of his best-selling Machadocado. It's a mid-length — the kind of board you grab when you want to catch everything, glide through flat sections, and still turn when the wave opens up.

It lives in the space between a shortboard and a longboard, with enough performance built in to keep things interesting in a wide range of conditions. Helium 2 construction. Futures fin setup.

If you've been looking for something that works on small days and holds up when it gets overhead, this is worth trying.

Futures Fins — Four Templates Restocked

Four Futures fin templates came back in this week. Two thruster sets and two specialty templates. Here's what each one is built for.

Futures Vector 3/2 Blackstix

Futures Vector 3/2 Blackstix thruster fins Hawaiian South Shore Best for: Surfers who want speed and hold through turns

The Vector 3/2 Blackstix is an upgrade on the original Vector. The Blackstix construction uses a stiffer layup, which keeps the foil fully engaged through turns. That translates to more drive, more hold, and better spring back without losing the fluid feel rail to rail.

The Vector foil has a concave surface on the inside of the front fins — that increases surface area, water attachment, and lift. The 3/2 adds 3 degrees of cant and 2 degrees of toe to the standard Vector, which creates lift and hold deeper into the turn. The Scimitar tip tightens the arc while enhancing release. Available in Medium and Large.

Futures Mayhem 3.0

Futures Mayhem 3.0 thruster fins honeycomb Hawaiian South Shore Best for: High-performance shortboards in powerful surf

The Mayhem 3.0 uses an all-new 5-fin template designed for modern high-performance shortboards. The increased rake and base give you more resistance and bite for powering through turns. The tapered flex tip adds release when you need quick direction changes.

Tested in wave pools and with elite riders. More rake and base for drive and hold. Tuned to match modern rocker curves. Available in a Honeycomb Small 3-fin set.

Futures EN Twin Fin Fiberglass — Large Neutral Template

Futures EN Twin Fin Fiberglass Large Neutral Template Hawaiian South Shore Best for: Twin-fin setups on point breaks and hollow waves

The EN Twin Fin is a large-size twin that gives you that classic twin-fin feel from the 70s and early 80s. The wide base and extra tall height creates maximum drive, while the thinner tip allows just the right amount of flex for maneuverability. Fiberglass construction — balanced and fluid. Neutral template category. Slate/Ochre colorway.

Futures P6 Blackstix — Medium Pivot Template

Futures P6 Blackstix Medium Pivot Template yellow Hawaiian South Shore Best for: Surfers who want tight turns and quick response

The P6 Blackstix uses Futures' V2 inside foil to generate and maintain speed through turns. The precision carbon and fiberglass matrix construction with specialized epoxy resin makes it very light and incredibly responsive — your board feels livelier underfoot. Pivot template category, which means tight turns and loose feel. Speed generating ride number of 8.2. Medium size, designed for 145–175 lbs.

Vektor Fins — VD and VMK Knubsters

Two Vektor Knubster fins in Smoke — both FCS II compatible. These are specialty fins built on Vektor's Vexcore technology: Honeycomb/Hexcore and Carbon fiber for added strength, stiffness, and reduced weight. Thinner foil, better projection and speed.

Vektor VD Knubster — Smoke

Vektor VD Knubster FCS II Compatible Smoke Hawaiian South Shore Best for: Long hollow waves and point breaks where drive and speed are critical

The VD is a Vektor Drives template. Designed for long hollow waves and point breaks — also works in small mushy waves where speed and drive matter. The longer base creates more drive and speed. Great for longer drawn-out outlines. 2 1/8" tall x 6" base. Recommended for medium riders (65–80kg / 155–175 lbs) and large riders (75–90kg / 175–200+ lbs).

Vektor VMK Knubster — Smoke

Vektor VMK Knubster FCS Smoke Hawaiian South Shore Best for: Versatile use across twin, thruster, quad, and longboard setups

The VMK is a Vektor Mini Keel template. The cut out at the rear of the base reduces drag and the smaller tip creates a more responsive, progressive ride. It's built after the modern keel fin design but isn't limited to twin setups — works as twin trailers, thruster trailers, quad fins, twin stabilizers, and side bites for longboards. 2 7/8" tall x 3 3/4" base. Recommended for medium (65–80kg / 145–175 lbs) and large (75–90kg / 165–200+ lbs).
