RETRO TRIPPERĀ FISH Matt Biolos and the crew at ā¦Lost have always loved short, stubby, fish-inspired shapes. In fact, they have two full-length films featuring nothing but fish hybrids: 5'5" x 19 ¼" and 5'5" x 19 ¼" Redux. These films and the performances of the ā¦Lost team on short, fishy boards went a long way toward re-popularizing the fish and hybrid design for modern surfers (in addition to revealing crazy waves such as Skeleton Bay in Namibia). True to its ethos of constant fun and refinement of board designs, ā¦LostĀ releasedĀ a new fish-inspired shape in mid-April 2022. Based on the Retro Ripper design, but shorter and with a fuller, more forward template, the Retro Tripper is intended to serve as a modern alternative to the classic fish shape. Ā Matt Biolos made the original Retro Tripper SurfboardĀ for himself in preparation for a trip to Salina Cruz in Mexico. He loved it so much he made a second one for a boat trip in the Mentawais, then started shaping them for his team riders to test. During the STAB Electric Acid board test he made two for Mason and Coco Ho, and they ended up shredding the heck out of them, even...

The New and Improved Sweet Potato from Firewire and Dan Mann (April 2022 Newsletter Part 3 of 6)

The New and Improved Sweet Potato Ā Ā While Dan Mann has proven himself to be a master shaper of all types of surf craft, it was the Sweet Potato that first made him a household name. A short, wide, volume-heavy groveler with straight rails and a deep double concave that effectively āsplitsā the board in half in order to allow it to turn and transition from rail to rail, the Sweet Potato was an instant hit with anyone who found themselves stuck surfing tiny longboard waves but not wanting to ride a longboard. Now, Dan Mann has updated his popular Sweet Potato model with a new swallowtail and further refined his bottom contours to make the board even more responsive and user-friendlyāwithout sacrificing any of the surfboardās speed while paddling and flying down the line. The new Sweet Potato comes stock with five fin boxes, providing the option to ride it just about any way you pleaseāas a thruster, twin, quad, and even quad+nubster. Built for weak to average waves in the one- to four-foot (face) range, the Sweet Potato comes in Firewireās patented Helium construction, which utilizes the ultimate in space-age technology to produce a board that is...

WHAT'S NEW AT HAWAIIAN SOUTH SHORE

WHAT'S NEW AT HAWAIIAN SOUTH SHORE HSS High-Performance Center Fin One of our customersā favorite fins has historically been the FCS Performer center fin, but since that fin is no longer available, we decided to make our own version. The Hawaiian South Shore High-Performance (HSS HP) center fin has a similar template to the FCS Performer center, and is great for surfers who like to shred high-performance longboards or who are transitioning from shortboarding to longboarding. The fin is made with G10 fiberglass, which is premium, industrial-grade fiberglass with a high cloth-to-resin ratio, which makes it stronger and more impervious to nicks and dings from the reef. Legendary shaper Dan Mann loves the G10 material for his fins, especially when he is traveling and a damaged fin could ruin his trip. The HSS HP is available in both large and extra-large sizes, and is perfect to pair with your favorite medium or large side fins (or XL side fins, if you are a very powerful or stout surfer). Moving the fin forward (toward the nose) will loosen your board up a bit, while bringing it back to the rear of the box (toward the tail) will provide more stability and...
