Introducing the Black Baron 2.1
JS has long been known for building some of the most high-performance boards on the market, but interestingly one of the brand’s most popular boards is a throwback twin-fin known as the Black Baron. Featuring added foam and a flatter rocker for speed and flow down the line, the hybrid twin is stuck somewhere between the 1970s and the 2020s—which is to say it’s fast and fun, but with a bit of modern flair.
But JS is never satisfied with just a bit of flair—he is always looking for ways to tweak things and take them to the next level, which is exactly why he has been an industry leader for decades. Despite his Black Baron’s continued popularity, he decided to improve on it once again, and the result was the Black Baron 2.1. This new design maintains all of the volume, speed and looseness of the original Black Baron twin-fin design, but in a slightly more modern package that allows it to be surfed more aggressively.
The outline of the Black Baron 2.1 has been stretched out a bit, and the board is intended to be ridden two inches longer than a normal Black Baron. The rocker has been increased slightly to make the board more aggressive, and the bottom contours have been modernized with a single to double concave. Most importantly, the twin-fin configuration has been revamped into a twin + stabilizer, with a box in the center for a small stabilizing fin. The result is a more high-tech, more aggressive, more maneuverable version of a modern classic—a twin fin with a bit of extra pizazz, perfect for big turns on small days.
