The 4 1/8” Takayama FCS Halo longboard side bites with my 9” Halo fin are so awesome. It feels like you’re floating on the wave. I’m still experimenting the setup on different types of longboards that I own. I’m also trying to watch some of the YouTube videos on where I should place my center fin. I previously bought another set of Futures halo side bites with a 7” Halo fin with halo side bites on my Dennis Pang 8’0” Performer and it works great and feels silky smooth. I highly recommend the halo fin setup if you like to trim fast and whip smooth cutbacks. Mahalos, Chad

I love my 9” DT Flex fin on my 9’4” Kai Sallas Mango Jam. It holds really good in bottom turns and in the pocket. Cutbacks are smooth and pivots quick back into the pocket. It’s perfect for my surfing style. Watching the Hawaiian South Shore Youtube videos was so helpful in selecting this fin for my longboard. Mahalos again, Chad

I picked up the Lost Big Rig in the LightSpeed (epoxy) construction. I’m 2 meters tall (around 6'6") and 80 kg (about 175 lbs). I was looking for something that catches waves easily but still gives you that genuine, high-performance shortboard feel, and this board delivers 100%. Even though I'm not an advanced pro surfer, I love a board that responds quickly, and the Big Rig is super reactive and fast. We got some good swell while I was out in the water, and the board handled it amazingly. Paddle power is great, and it glides into waves with ease. The epoxy construction feels incredible underfoot—so light and lively. I’ve been spending so much time laying down paddling in the lineup that I’m even starting to leave a few rib pressure dents on the deck! If you're a taller surfer looking for speed, paddle ease, and crisp shortboard performance, this board is an absolute winner. Huge thanks to the team for setting me up right!

I ride a Stewart Ripster 9'2", and this fin is totally rad! I used to ride a 9.0 Sallas Spiral, which was awesome for quick turns, but its nose stability was average. Then I tried the Tudor 9.6, which was super stable on the nose but lacked that snappy response. This morning, I tested the 9.0 Takayama DT Flex, and it's like the perfect blend of the Sallas and Tudor, super responsive and still rock-solid stable. Best fin I've run on this board so far!

I'm 5'6" and around 120 lbs, and I surf a couple of times a month. I got the Gem and it is awesome—it feels so good and smooth. Going to this board was like switching from a soft top to a real board. I usually surf Rock Piles, Betweens, and White Plains, and I get tons of compliments everywhere I go. People are always asking what board it is! Right now, I’m running it as a single fin set up with a 9" Greenough, and it works really great. On top of that, Hawaiian South Shore has amazing customer service. Of all the places we went, it was 100% worth buying from here!
I really like the RSC Sunscreen—I like it a lot. I've tried other name brands and they work okay, but even when I get out of the water after a couple hours, I'd still get blushy cheeks and a red face. This one actually stays on your face while you're out there, and I don't look like I was in the sun all day after using it. No sunburn at all like with the other ones. It's pretty simple to use and smells good, too. You don't have a hard time taking it off either I just take a shower with soap and water and it comes right off.
Surprisingly versatile, this board is kind of a one board quiver, especially for the south shore. Got the 7’2 and it paddles good and catches waves easy. Super fun with the Machado Twin plus trailer in smaller, softer conditions and when the waves pick up, the Machado quads give plenty of hold and drive. Might be my new favorite mid length and surfboard in general. Mahalo to David, Sean and the HSS Team for the awesome customer service!

I've been using the RSC (Real Sun Cover) sunscreen stick for the last 3 days during my recruit class, and I'm a total testament to how well it works! We're out in the hot sun doing swim week rescue training at El Molino, basically out there for 8 hours straight. All of us recruits have been blasting through one guy's stick, covering ourselves head to toe, and it stays on like crazy. You put it on once, and it stays put—I actually have trouble getting it off when I go shower, so you'll definitely need some soap or shampoo to break it down. If you need a sunscreen that actually stays on all day in the sun and water, this is it. Come check it out at South Shore!
I was a bit skeptical at first, but after coming back to try out these X-Flane twin fins with the little mini ripper trailer fin—oh man, let me tell you. The way it drives you down the line makes it so easy to pull off your turns. I’m riding a 9'3" Eric Arakawa Avis performance hybrid. I usually stick to regular longboard fins, but pairing this twin-plus-trailer setup in the center box is absolute perfection for medium-sized town days. The biggest difference I noticed is on the bottom turn coming back up. When you're ready to drive down the line again, it feels like it just locks you in place and pushes you forward. I love that feeling—it’s super skatey, but it still has plenty of grip.
I was looking for a groveler when the Spun Honey came out, and after riding it, I honestly think it’s Firewire’s best board right now—especially if you're getting a little older, want paddle power, but still want something that rips. I’m 5'10" and 178 lbs, and I started out on the 5'10" (35L), which is right around my normal shortboard volume. It was a fantastic, super performance-oriented board, but I wanted a bit more of that true groveler feel. Then I tried my buddy's 6'0", and the thing just took off! That’s the beauty of this board: if you run your normal liters, it feels like a super high-performance, fast shortboard for your local spot. But if you oversize it slightly, it turns into this incredible high-performance Sweet Potato style groveler with tons of glide and easy paddling. It connects through the flat sections so easily, redirects great on cutbacks, and has so much flow and tail lift. It’s easily up there with the Too Fish for speed. It’s not meant for pumping, steep waves where you need heavy rocker, but I took it out today in head-high to overhead surf and it handled that speed awesome.
I’m about 5'11" and 175 lbs riding the 6'0" and I have the Spaceship. I’ve ridden a lot of Firewires—the S-Boss, Houdini, and a couple Dominators so I was excited to try this one out. I traded up my fins to some mediums from AM1s, and it made a huge difference. It felt a little too loose with the smaller-tip, pivoting fins, but now that I’ve got these wider bases, it really moves. It’s a super responsive, floaty, snappy board, and solid off the bottom turn. Looking at the shape, I was wondering how it would handle normal surf or a couple feet overhead, but the spot I surf is one of the biggest jacked-up spots on the South Shore and it handles the job 100%. I haven't had too much luck in the barrels with it yet—still trying to figure that part out—but coming off the bottom, it feels completely confident.
Had a set of these fins fell in love, now all twins will have these fins. Also great service from staff will be buying next surfboard from them.

I got both the 10.0 and the 7.5, the 10 for my 9.6 DT Long Scorpion single fin and the 7.5 for my DT4 2+1 setup. The 10 made the Long Scorpion snap in and out of cutbacks what with the aggressive tail of the Scorpion already and nice and stable on noseride. I haven’t tried the 7.5 yet, , will try it when waves get much bigger but it’s sure to liven up the board. Mahalo nui Hawaiian South Shore for turning me on to those fins, especially before they are pau for ever. I ordered the 10 on Friday afternoon and it was in the mailbox on Maui Monday am, Lala wreaking havoc notwithstanding. Amazing customer service and support 5 hōkū 🤙

Picked up a 6’5 Lost Big Rig Driver squash tail in Light Speed construction. The board turns good, paddles good and gets into waves really well. I’m a fifty something weekend warrior, so been riding a lot of bigger boards lately (i.e midlengths) for paddling and wave catching advantage, but these boards can have their disadvantages. Didn’t realize how much I missed shortboarding until I picked up this board. It duck dives really well too which helps, especially with the awesome summer we’ve been having. Tried several Futures thruster setups (John John Scimitar and Am2 Techflex) but the Craig Anderson Blackstix is my favorite so far. I just picked up the Twinzer last Sunday, and even though I had a tooth pulled and couldn't get in the water as much as I wanted, I was able to take it out twice. Before this, I had actually never surfed a twin fin before—I usually ride two-plus-ones, thrusters, or quads depending on the surf. The experience has been absolute magic! Those small canard fins make an unreal difference. The hold on this board is incredible—it doesn't slide out on you at all when you're setting an edge. If you want to hold a rail and throw a proper top turn, it won't give out unexpectedly. But if you intentionally want to push the tail and slide it, it gives you that looseness right when you ask for it. I took it out on a smaller day and was all smiles the entire session. I am so happy with this board! If you've been on the fence about trying a Twinzer, just do it.

I’m 5'7", 150 lbs, and I picked up the Harley Ingleby HIBT (HI Bolt) in a 5'10" at 32 liters about two months ago. As I'm getting older, I decided to step up the volume a bit. It’s slightly higher volume than what I normally ride, but zero complaints here! The biggest thing I noticed right away is how well it paddles. Even though it has extra foam, it doesn't feel like the volume gets in the way at all. It's not overly wide like some other high-volume boards, so when the waves get overhead or start pumping, it doesn't feel stiff or hard to turn—it just performs. I’ve been experimenting a lot with fin setups. I tried it as a quad, then as a twin with Power Twins, but now I’m running it as a twinzer! I actually hand-shaped a little longboard side-bite down into a custom canard fin to fit the front thruster plugs. As a twinzer, it’s hands-down my favorite setup—you get all that fast, loose twin-fin feel, but with that extra hold so it doesn't slide out on you. It works awesome both frontside and backside. If you want a board that gives you extra paddle power without feeling like a log in good surf, the HIBT is killer!

I got the 5'10 , gets into waves easy, strong projection off the bottom turn, and the release you get off the top is unbelievable, lol.... I rode it as a 2+1 , and quad(the Spun Honey quad set) , 2+1 was fast , gotta watch for the tail blowouts when you hit the lip, other than that its solid!, as a quad , way more hold at the lip , highly recommend the quad around chest high and up... honestly, if you on the fence of getting one, JUST GET IT😂😂, and thank me later😂😂😂😂... the guy that helped me at the shop, I think his name is Sean , not 100% sure, but , super cool guy and very helpful when came time to pick up the board... that alone will keep me coming back🤙

I’ve been using the Real Sun Cover (RSC) sunscreen since it first came out around 2019. Just came back into the shop to grab another tub in white, and honestly, I love this stuff. The most important thing: it works. I do not get sunburned at all when I wear it. It easily holds up and stays on your face for a solid 2-hour session in the water. Once you're done, you just head home, jump in the shower, and it washes right off without any hassle. Hawaiian South Shore always carries the best gear. If you spend real time in the water, come check them out and grab yourself one.
I’m 5'9", 160 lbs, and the Moe Mini is hands-down my favorite board. It is a absolute wave-catching machine. Whenever I'm heading out with my girlfriend to spots like Bowls or when the surf is on the smaller side, I grab the Moe. But honestly, it's not just a small-wave board—I’ve taken it out in head-high surf too, and it just works seamlessly across everything. It paddles super easy. I’m out there at Bowls paddling right past the longboarders, and you can tell they're sitting there looking at me like, "What is this guy on?!" It’s just such a fun, reliable ride. I always joke that even when I get way older and can't surf like I used to, I'll still be riding the Moe Mini. It’s the ultimate young-man-to-old-man board and an absolute must-have in the quiver!
I’m 5'9", 160 lbs, and I’ve had my 6'4" Firewire Mid 6 Mini for about two years now. This board is absolute magic. I usually take it out whenever we have some size—around 3 to 4 foot plus—and oh man, when this thing catches a wave, it catches. It glides into waves so easily, almost like a longboard, but gives you all the maneuverability and versatility of a shortboard once you're up and riding. I just end up speeding through every section, and it is so much fun. I’ve been running it consistently as a quad set up using the FCS II Performers, which gives it insane speed and hold in good waves. If you want a mid-length that doesn't feel sluggish and lets you step up when the waves get good, the Mid 6 Mini is awesome. Love this board!
