1. Do I really need a wet rash for surfing?
Yes. The Hawaiian South Shore Wet Rash protects your skin from rashes caused by board wax, sun exposure, and paddling friction. It's made with soft 1.5mm neoprene, so it adds warmth without bulk, and it's comfortable enough to wear in both warm and cooler surf.
2. What's the difference between a wet rash and a wetsuit top?
The Wet Rash is a hybrid. It combines the flexibility of a rashguard with the light warmth of a wetsuit. Traditional wetsuit tops are often bulky or stiff. The Hawaiian South Shore Wet Rash uses 1.5mm soft neoprene, giving you warmth, protection, and better mobility ā ideal for Hawaiiās changing surf conditions.
3. Should I choose a tight or loose-fitting wet rash?
The Wet Rash is designed for a snug, performance fit. Itās shaped to move with you in the water. Raised seams in the armpit area prevent pinching, and there are no seams directly under the arms ā so even though it fits close, it stays comfortable during long sessions.
4. Does a wet rash help with inner thigh rash from boardshorts?
The Wet Rash protects your upper body, but it doesnāt cover the inner thigh area. However, it does have a reinforced boardshort connector loop that keeps it from riding up ā which can reduce skin-on-skin friction caused by twisting or paddling hard.
5. Are hooded wet rashes worth it?
If you're in the sun for long hours or surfing in windy conditions, yes. Hawaiian South Shore offers both hooded and non-hooded versions. The hooded model protects your neck, ears, and head from UV and windburn, while the non-hooded version features a neck loop for comfort and security.
6. How do I choose the right size wet rash?
Choose your regular wetsuit or surf top size. The Wet Rash fits snug, but not restrictive. Itās available in a full size run, and the flexible 1.5mm neoprene molds to your body. If youāre between sizes, size down for a tighter surf fit.
