Technology Behind the Magic
The RNF Retro Revamp features Double Dart Construction, incorporating a carbon fiber shell on both the top and bottom of the board. This construction provides strength and torsional flex, allowing the board to bend and twist more freely without becoming too rigid or stiff, offering a unique surfing experience and enhancing the board's overall performance.
Revolutionary Side-Cut Technology: What sets the RNF Retro Revamp apart from endless schools of fish is the use of a snowboard-inspired design element - reverse radius side-cut in the outline. The RNF Retro uses not one, but two side-cut radiuses: one between the feet, starting just behind the wide point, and another shorter/tighter one right under the rear foot, in place of a hip or wing. This outline enables a flat rockered and generally parallel outlined board to turn sharper and retain speed in tight radius turns. They "lock in" to the wave face and carve off the rail without sliding out or digging.
The RNF Retro Revamp pays homage to the low-rocker, high-performance longboards that dominated the surf scene during the sport's golden era, featuring generous dimensions, low rocker, flat deck, steep rails, and wide tail.

What are the key differences in outline between the RNF Retro and the Revamp?

How does the pulled-in nose affect performance and turning radius?
The narrowed forward 12" of the nose gets it "outta the way, in tighter turning situations," improving the board's ability to turn in tight spaces.
What's the purpose of the deeper sidecut under the back foot?
The deepened rear side cut provides "bite and control, right under the back foot" as part of the dual side-cut system.
How does the foil being pushed forward change the board's feel?
Carrying the thickness foil further forward adds "paddle power, ease of entry into waves and front foot drive, to balance the now more curvaceous tail rocker."
What kind of rocker does the Revamp have compared to the original?
Without changing the tip or tail, they adjusted the rocker curves both fore and aft:
- The tail rocker hangs lower in the rear third but then swoops up quickly through the fins, creating more curve under the rear foot without actually adding rocker
- Up front they took a more direct route to the nose, cutting out some curve in the forward 1/3rd of the board
- They eliminated the slight forward vee
How wide is the tail, and how does that impact speed and control?
Features a "wide tail" with "a hint of width added to the tail block, for horizontal trim." The wide tail helps deliver "lots of driving speed down the line."
Is the board still considered a "fish" or more of a hybrid shortboard now?
