DT-2
The Donald Takayama DT-2 is Donald's true all-rounder: a longboard designed to turn, trim, and noseride equally well in the same session. It carries the speed of his original DT-1 and adds more focus on the nose, making it one of the most versatile longboards in the Takayama lineup.
WHO
The DT-2 is for the longboarder who doesn't want to choose between noseriding and real surfing off the tail.
- The all-around longboarder who wants one board to trim, walk, and turn on every kind of day
- The noserider who still wants a board that draws a clean line off the bottom and turns without a fight
- The traveling surfer who needs a single durable board that handles whatever the trip delivers
- The surfer stepping back onto a longboard who wants classic style with modern responsiveness
- The experienced logger building a minimalist quiver around one dependable everyday board
It's the board for surfers who want one longboard they can trust in every condition.
WHEN
The DT-2 covers the full range of longboard surf, from knee-high to well overhead. On mellow, peeling walls, it trims fast and sets up easily for time on the nose. On softer days, the low entry rocker keeps it gliding and moving through flat sections. As the waves get bigger and more powerful, the board comes into its own, holding a line down the face and driving through turns where a pure noserider starts to struggle. Hawaii's mix of gentle rollers and stronger, lined-up swell is exactly the range the DT-2 was built for.
WHAT
Donald designed the DT-2 as a do-it-all shape that keeps the speed of the original DT-1 and shifts more of its focus to the nose. A subtle nose concave gives the board lift and stability up front for noseriding, and a low entry rocker lets it paddle into waves early and carry speed down the line. The 60/40 rails blend a soft, forgiving upper rail with a harder edge below, so the board holds in the face and releases cleanly out of turns. A rounded pintail keeps rail-to-rail transitions smooth and predictable and gives the board the hold it needs as the surf gets more powerful.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the DT-2 a noserider or an all-around longboard?
The DT-2 is an all-around longboard with a strong noseriding bias. The subtle nose concave and low entry rocker make it stable and easy to walk to the nose, so it noserides well. The 60/40 rails and rounded pintail let it draw full turns off the tail and hold a line in bigger surf, which a dedicated noserider usually can't do. If you want one longboard that trims, noserides, and turns without being a one-trick board, the DT-2 is built for exactly that.
Does the DT-2's low rocker make it prone to pearling?
The DT-2's low entry rocker is a deliberate design choice. It helps the board paddle fast, catch waves early, and carry speed through flat sections. The trade-off is that the nose sits closer to the water on steep, late takeoffs. Most riders manage this with foot position and timing: stay a little further back on the drop, angle the takeoff, and move forward once the board is up and trimming. Surfers comfortable with classic longboard technique generally find the low rocker an advantage rather than a problem.
What size DT-2 should I order?
Sizing the DT-2 depends on your weight, skill level, the waves you surf most, and how you want to ride it. Lighter surfers and those who want a quicker-turning board often choose the shorter end of the range, while heavier surfers and those focused on glide and noseriding tend to go longer. The right answer depends on the full picture, so contact us directly and we'll help you choose:

When you reach out, include your current board dimensions and volume, which construction you're considering, the type of breaks you surf most (beach break, reef break, point break), how often you surf, and your location. Also tell us how you want to ride the DT-2: more traditional noseriding or more performance turning. Your location affects shipping options and helps us give you accurate delivery information.
