MACY BOO
WHO
The Macy-Boo is for the surfer who rides a longboard the traditional way — forward, on the nose, and in trim.
- The noserider who wants a dedicated log rather than a longboard that compromises between styles
- The longboarder stepping across from a performance shape who wants real traditional feel underfoot
- The stylist who'd rather cross-step and hang five than drive a turn off the tail
- The experienced surfer building a log into an existing quiver for clean, unhurried days
- The rider who wants a classic log shape in a lighter, livelier build than a heavily glassed traditional board
This is a board that rewards patience, footwork, and reading the wave ahead of you.
WHEN
The Macy-Boo is built for the waves logs were made for — clean, peeling lines with an open face and enough shape to hold a long trim. It comes into its own on softer, gentler waves where the goal is to get forward early and stay there, and it keeps working as the surf picks up into shoulder-high and overhead territory where the wall has real push behind it. Nose lift and a flipped tail rocker mean it sets into the wave face and stays locked in rather than running out ahead of the pocket. Hawaii turns on days like this often enough that a dedicated log earns a permanent spot on the rack, not just a place in the rotation.
WHAT
Rob Machado built the Macy-Boo around the boards that shaped his own longboarding — Donald Takayama's Model T and Skip Frye's gliders — and the bottom contours tell that story from nose to tail. A single concave runs under the nose, creating lift and a defined pocket up front so the board holds its position on the wave face when you step all the way forward. Through the middle, that concave rolls into a belly, which softens the way the rails engage and makes the board feel forgiving and easy to trim rather than sharp or demanding. Off the back, the belly transitions into vee, which breaks up the flat and gives the tail somewhere to go when you want to pivot and reset your line. The flipped tail rocker ties it together: lifting the tail rocker lets the back of the board sit down into the wave under your weight, which is what anchors a long nose ride.
CONSTRUCTION OPTIONS
Helium: An EPS core built around a variable flex I-beam stringer, with Paulownia and balsa wood rails running the full length of the board and a wooden nosecap at the tip. Light and lively, with flex controlled by the wood rails and a firm, durable platform at the nose.
