DIAMOND DRIVE 2.0

The Thunderbolt Harley Ingleby Diamond Drive 2.0 is an all-around performance longboard designed by shaper Billy Tolhurst with 2x World Longboard Champion Harley Ingleby. Built as the workhorse of the HI Series, it pairs a three-stage rocker with a balanced plan shape and a teardrop nose concave to deliver extended noserides, progressive turns, and confident performance from waist-high lines into well-overhead surf.

WHO

The Diamond Drive 2.0 is for the longboarder who wants one all-around performance board that catches waves easily and handles a wide range of conditions.

  • The intermediate-to-advanced longboarder looking for a single board that does everything well
  • The progressive longboarder who wants to noseride on weaker waves and still draw real turns when the surf has size
  • The traveling longboarder who wants one board in the bag that won't be limited by conditions
  • The longboarder who values paddle power and wave count, not just style points
  • The experienced surfer stepping back onto a longboard who wants modern performance without giving up classic feel

This is the board for surfers who want versatility, ease of use, and confidence across the full longboard range.

WHEN

The Diamond Drive 2.0 is built for the wide middle of longboard surf and beyond — soft, lined-up waves where catching them early matters, clean walls with shape and shoulder where trim and noseriding come into play, and stronger days where the surf is overhead and the rocker has to hold its line. The three-stage rocker gives it the paddle power to get into weaker waves before they steepen, while the same rocker keeps the nose out of trouble when the surf jumps in size. The teardrop nose concave helps control speed when the board is locked into a section, and the wider tail provides stable support for stepping forward. Hawaii's wide mix of conditions — from soft, lined-up days to powerful overhead swells — covers exactly the range this board is designed for, which is why an all-around performance longboard earns a permanent place on the rack here.

WHAT

The Diamond Drive 2.0 is a refinement of the original Diamond Drive built around what surfers actually use a longboard for. The wide point has been pulled back compared to the original, which produces a more balanced plan shape — narrower in the nose, wider through the tail. That change does two things at once. It straightens up the rail line so the board paddles, walks, and trims more comfortably, and it puts more support under the back foot so the tail holds steady when a surfer steps forward to ride the nose. A light teardrop nose concave was added to control speed when the board is on the tip, and the bottom contour runs through a slight blended concave at the nose, transitions into a spiral vee with double concave through the middle, and finishes with a flat bottom at the tail. The three-stage rocker carries through unchanged from the original — Tolhurst and Ingleby kept what already worked.

CONSTRUCTION OPTIONS

Thunderbolt Red: EPS foam core with carbon fiber internal flex components, hand-laminated with 6oz and 2oz fiberglass cloth on both top and bottom. Thunderbolt's most versatile construction — a balanced medium rebound rate that performs predictably across a wide range of conditions.

Thunderbolt Black: EPS foam core with internal fiberglass flex components, hand-laminated with 6oz carbon fiber and 2oz fiberglass cloth on both top and bottom. The lightest and highest-performance Thunderbolt construction, with the fastest rebound rate in the range — built for surfers prioritizing speed, control, and durability.

The main differences in the Diamond Drive 2.0 are:

  1. Balanced plan shape: The wide point has been moved back slightly, making the tail wider and the nose narrower.
  2. Slight teardrop nose concave: This new feature helps with speed control while noseriding.
  3. More parallel outline: The updated shape makes walking, trimming, and paddling more comfortable.

What wave conditions is the Diamond Drive 2.0 designed for?

The Diamond Drive 2.0 is designed to be versatile, performing well in various conditions:

  • It thrives in waist-high to well overhead point break waves.
  • The board performs well in small, weak waves and larger, more powerful waves.
  • It's suitable for conditions ranging from waist-high to double overhead faces.

Is the Diamond Drive 2.0 suitable for beginners?

While the Diamond Drive 2.0 can be ridden by surfers of all levels, it's primarily designed for intermediate and above surfers looking for a board that supports varied performance surfing. However, its ease of use makes it a great choice for weekend warriors and everyday surfers as well

What fin setup is recommended for the Diamond Drive 2.0?

Harley Ingleby recommends the following fin setups:

  • For everyday surfing: FCS Harley XL tri set.
  • For larger waves or more speed: FCS Harley XL quad set.
  • Harley also mentions experimenting with a single fin for waist-high or smaller waves

How does the Diamond Drive 2.0 handle noseriding?

The Diamond Drive 2.0 is designed to enhance noseriding capabilities:

  • The wider tail and balanced shape make it easier to stay on the nose, even in weaker waves.
  • The light teardrop nose concave helps lock the board in place when on the nose and provides better speed control.
