HI4 DESCRIPTION

WHAT IS THE HI4 SURFBOARD?

The HI4 is Harley's go to performance longboard for anything up to a bit over head high faces. It's wider all round with more plane shape curve between your feet making it incredibly loose and easy to turn.

It utilizes the continual HP rocker with the last 6 inches flipped up so with the wider dimensions it's still very at home in the pocket. The even rocker, nose concave and the wider nose combination makes the HI4 the easiest to walk and nose ride of the HI series.

HARLEY HI4 FAQS

What are the ideal wave conditions for the Harley Ingleby HI4?

The HI4 excels in a variety of conditions, including:

  • Waves up to slightly overhead high faces
  • Everyday conditions from knee to thigh high surf
  • Both small, mushy waves and larger, more critical waves
It performs well in clean, well-formed waves but can also handle some chop.

How does the HI4 compare to other performance longboards?

The HI4 stands out in several ways:

  • Balances traditional and progressive longboarding styles
  • Wider dimensions and more plane shape curve for easier turning
  • Excellent glide and trim capabilities with maintained maneuverability
  • Wider nose for easier nose riding compared to many performance longboards.

What fin setup works best with the HI4?

The HI4 comes with a versatile 4+1 fin configuration. Recommended setups include:

  1. FCS Harley XL tri set for regular conditions
  2. FCS Harley XL quad set for larger open faces or hollow surf
  3. Twin fin setup with a small trailer for increased speed (some riders' preference)
Experimenting with different setups can optimize performance for various conditions.

Is the HI4 suitable for beginners or intermediate surfers?

While primarily a high-performance board, the HI4 can suit intermediate surfers and ambitious beginners:

  • Offers good stability and paddle power
  • Versatile for progressing across different longboarding styles
  • Wider dimensions provide more forgiveness than some performance longboards
However, true beginners might find more suitable options in entry-level longboards.

How does the Thunderbolt construction affect the board's performance?

Thunderbolt construction enhances the HI4's performance by:

  • Providing a unique flex pattern uncommon in EPS-based longboards
  • Offering a lively, responsive feel due to engineered flex and twist
  • Increasing durability while maintaining performance
  • Available in Thunderbolt Red (fiberglass) and Black (carbon fiber) options, with Black being lighter and more responsive.

How well does the HI4 handle nose riding?

The HI4 excels in nose riding:

  • Wider nose and even rocker profile facilitate easier nose riding
  • Nose concave helps with stability and control
  • Allows for nose riding both on the face and in the pocket
  • Considered the easiest to walk and nose ride in the Harley Ingleby series.

How does the HI4 perform in small, mushy waves?

The HI4 performs well in small, mushy waves due to:

  • Wider overall shape for generating speed in weaker waves
  • Width and rocker profile maintaining planing speed on softer waves
  • Thunderbolt construction enhancing responsiveness in less powerful conditions.
