RNF RETRO REVAMP

WHAT IS LOST RNF RETRO REVAMP?

The Lost RNF Retro Revamp is a 1970s-inspired performance fish built around a dual side-cut outline that lets a flat-rockered board carve tighter and harder than most fish have any right to. If you want drive, speed, and the ability to actually turn — this is the fish that delivers all three.

Key Advantages

🏄‍♂️ Effortless Wave Catching - Generous dimensions, low rocker, flat deck, and wide tail make catching waves easier than any fish Lost ever designed

Explosive Down-the-Line Speed - Delivers lots of driving speed down the line, especially in small and soft surf conditions

🎯 Revolutionary Dual Side-Cut System - Snowboard-inspired reverse radius side-cut enables sharp turns while retaining speed in tight radius maneuvers

💪 Enhanced Carbon Construction - Double Dart construction with carbon fiber shell provides strength and torsional flex for enhanced performance

Perfect For You If

  • You want a board that excels in clean, slopey surf ranging from knee high to overhead
  • You're looking for a modern take on a classic 1970s-inspired fish design
  • You surf small and soft surf conditions and want maximum driving speed
  • You appreciate innovative design that stands apart from typical fish offerings
  • You want easy wave-catching abilities with smooth cruising speed through big carving turns

Technology Behind the Magic

The RNF Retro Revamp features Double Dart Construction, incorporating a carbon fiber shell on both the top and bottom of the board. This construction provides strength and torsional flex, allowing the board to bend and twist more freely without becoming too rigid or stiff, offering a unique surfing experience and enhancing the board's overall performance.

Revolutionary Side-Cut Technology: What sets the RNF Retro Revamp apart from endless schools of fish is the use of a snowboard-inspired design element - reverse radius side-cut in the outline. The RNF Retro uses not one, but two side-cut radiuses: one between the feet, starting just behind the wide point, and another shorter/tighter one right under the rear foot, in place of a hip or wing. This outline enables a flat rockered and generally parallel outlined board to turn sharper and retain speed in tight radius turns. They "lock in" to the wave face and carve off the rail without sliding out or digging.

The RNF Retro Revamp pays homage to the low-rocker, high-performance longboards that dominated the surf scene during the sport's golden era, featuring generous dimensions, low rocker, flat deck, steep rails, and wide tail.

Fin Setup Options

Controller Quad Setup - The recommended fin configuration that maximizes the board's unique design characteristics and works optimally with the dual side-cut system.

WHO

The RNF Retro Revamp is built for surfers who want more out of a fish than just straight-line glide.

  • Intermediate to advanced surfers ready to bring real performance to a fish template
  • Lighter, shorter riders who want a shorter board with high volume and easy entry
  • Heavier riders who like the idea of a fish but need something that responds to back-foot pressure
  • Surfers transitioning off a hybrid or shortboard who want glide without giving up turning ability
  • Anyone who's ridden the original RNF Retro and wants the refined, more precise version

This board rewards surfers who know how to drive off the back foot and engage a rail — it's not just a cruiser, it's a fish with serious performance potential.

WHEN

The RNF Retro Revamp performs best in clean, open-face waves with room to build speed and carve — knee-high to well overhead. The dual side-cut outline really comes alive when the wave has some shape and slope to it. On a day when your shortboard feels like work, this board turns the same session into something fast and fun. It handles Hawaii's variable surf well — softer days, punchy beach break, and even shoulder-high days with open walls all sit in its wheelhouse.

WHAT

The defining feature of the Revamp is the dual side-cut outline — two separate reverse-radius sidecuts borrowed from snowboard design. One runs between the feet starting just behind the wide point; the second, tighter sidecut sits right under the back foot in place of a traditional hip or wing. Together, they let this flat-rockered, wide-tailed board lock into the wave face and carve sharp turns without sliding out or catching rail. The Revamp refines the original RNF Retro with a forward-shifted wide point, a slightly pulled-in nose, a deepened rear sidecut, and a hint of extra tail width for horizontal trim. The rocker was also reworked front and back — flatter in the forward third for faster entry, and a low-hanging tail rocker that sweeps up quickly through the fin area, creating more curve under the back foot without adding rocker tip-to-tail. Foil thickness was pushed forward to match.

Double Dart construction wraps the board in a full carbon fiber shell on both deck and bottom, providing structural strength and torsional flex. The board bends and twists more freely than a standard epoxy build — reactive underfoot, fast rail-to-rail, and lively through turns.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the key differences in outline between the RNF Retro and the Revamp?

  • Moved the wide point slightly forward
  • Gently narrowed/pulled in the forward 12" of the nose to get it out of the way in tighter turning situations
  • Added a hint of width to the tail block for horizontal trim

How does the pulled-in nose affect performance and turning radius?

The narrowed forward 12" of the nose gets it "outta the way, in tighter turning situations," improving the board's ability to turn in tight spaces.

What's the purpose of the deeper sidecut under the back foot?

The deepened rear side cut provides "bite and control, right under the back foot" as part of the dual side-cut system.

How does the foil being pushed forward change the board's feel?

Carrying the thickness foil further forward adds "paddle power, ease of entry into waves and front foot drive, to balance the now more curvaceous tail rocker."

What kind of rocker does the Revamp have compared to the original?

Without changing the tip or tail, they adjusted the rocker curves both fore and aft:

  • The tail rocker hangs lower in the rear third but then swoops up quickly through the fins, creating more curve under the rear foot without actually adding rocker
  • Up front they took a more direct route to the nose, cutting out some curve in the forward 1/3rd of the board
  • They eliminated the slight forward vee

How wide is the tail, and how does that impact speed and control?

Features a "wide tail" with "a hint of width added to the tail block, for horizontal trim." The wide tail helps deliver "lots of driving speed down the line."

Is the board still considered a "fish" or more of a hybrid shortboard now?

It's still referred to as a fish - specifically "a more classic, almost 1970's inspired, fish" and the catalog calls it "The evolution of the performance fish, where precision is paramount."
