Pairs well with the Endorfins KSR

The board ridden by the 11x World Champion during his memorable Kirra sessions in March 2024, meet the Spaceship by Mike Woo and Kelly Slater.

A high performance model for good waves, the Spaceship represents decades of R&D by Mike Woo (@woosurfboards). Having previously shaped the Great White Twin for Kelly inspired by the outline of a Great White Shark, Mike and Kelly set out to craft a more conventional outline designed for hold in tubes, turns on rail, and hold in round wave faces from Canggu to Coolangatta.

FIREWIRE SPACESHIP

The Firewire Spaceship is a high-performance step-up shaped by Mike Woo in collaboration with Kelly Slater — a board designed from the ground up for quality waves, with the feel of a precision tool and the hold to match. If your regular board starts to feel outpaced when the surf gets serious, this is the board built for those days.

WHO

The Spaceship is built for surfers who are ready to push into better surf with a board that can hold its own there.

  • The experienced shortboarder who wants a dedicated step-up that still surfs like a high-performance board, not a gun
  • The surfer who finds their everyday board getting washed around in overhead-plus waves and wants something with real hold in the pocket
  • The reef surfer — tube rides, rail turns, and critical sections are where this board was designed to operate
  • The performance-minded surfer who wants Kelly Slater's favorite shape for good waves and the construction to back it up

This board rewards surfers who surf with commitment — on the rail, in the barrel, and through critical sections where lesser boards get out-surfed by the wave.

WHEN

The Spaceship comes to life when the surf has genuine power and shape — waves with defined faces, hold-down zones, and enough push to reward a board built for precision. It excels when surf is chest-high or larger and the conditions are clean enough to actually surf on rail. The rounded pintail and performance rocker are designed to stay locked in on round wave faces and hold through steep, fast sections — the kind of surf where a more versatile shortboard starts to feel like a liability. Hawaiian reef breaks reward this board's DNA: hold in the tube, drive through the turn, and control when the wave gets critical.

WHAT

Mike Woo built the Spaceship around a rounded pintail — a shape that delivers straight-line speed, hold in the barrel, and control on fast, round wave faces. The rocker is calibrated for good waves: enough entry curve to paddle in decisively, enough tail flip to keep the board under control in steeper, more critical sections. A single concave runs through the front half of the board and transitions into a double concave between the feet — a combination that generates speed off the entry and then channels drive and direction under the back foot where the surfer needs it most. Performance rails keep the board locked in without sacrificing mobility through turns.

The Spaceship is available in two constructions, each delivering a distinct performance profile. Ibolic 2.0 brings an I-beam EPS core with high-density foam rails and a carbon strip inlay on the bottom deck — stiff, controlled, and responsive. Proflex is Firewire's most advanced build: a lightweight EPS core wrapped in an engineered Technorra carbon cage with S-glass deck lamination and carbon reinforcement along the bottom and rails. Proflex delivers targeted flex and immediate rebound straight off the rack, with no break-in period.

CONSTRUCTION OPTIONS

Ibolic 2.0: I-beam EPS core with flex controlled at the rails using high-density foam and a fully engineered carbon strip inlay on the bottom deck — stiff, precise, and built for performance response.

Proflex: Sandwich construction with a lightweight 1.5lb EPS core, an engineered Technorra carbon cage, S-glass deck lamination, and carbon reinforcement along the bottom and rails — Firewire's most advanced high-performance build with immediate flex and rebound response.

FIN CONFIGURATIONS

5-Fin. Rides as thruster or quad. Fins not included.

SPACESHIP FAQS

Who shaped the Spaceship surfboard?

The Spaceship was shaped by Mike Woo (@woosurfboards) in collaboration with Kelly Slater. It represents decades of R&D by Mike Woo and was developed after previously shaping the Great White Twin for Kelly.

What makes the Spaceship different from Kelly's other boards?

The Spaceship features a more conventional outline compared to Kelly's other models. Mike Woo and Kelly designed it specifically for hold in tubes, turns on rail, and hold in round wave faces.

What type of waves is the Spaceship best for?

This is Kelly Slater's favorite shape for good waves. The Spaceship excels in:

  • Reef passes
  • Point breaks
  • Perfect beach breaks
  • Tubes requiring exceptional hold
  • Waves from Canggu to Coolangatta
  • Performance surfing at waves like Lowers

What is the board's intended purpose?

The Spaceship was designed as a high-performance model for good waves, with the DNA of a Bali-tube-shooter. It's crafted for hold in tubes, turns on rail, and maintaining control in round wave faces.

What is I-Bolic 2.0 Technology?

I-Bolic 2.0 features I-beam core construction with flex controlled at the rails using high-density foam. It includes a fully engineered carbon strip inlay on the bottom deck, offering the same speed, control, strength, and response as the original I-Bolic but with increased strength.

What are the key design elements of the Spaceship?

The Spaceship features:

  • A rounded pintail for control
  • Single concave in the front half of the board
  • Double concave between your feet
  • Performance rails
  • Rocker designed to fit into the curve of good waves

Who is the Spaceship designed for?

The Spaceship is designed for intermediate to advanced surfers who:

  • Surf quality waves regularly
  • Want exceptional tube riding capability
  • Need precise rail control for performance surfing
  • Appreciate Kelly Slater's approach to board design
