TJ SPECIAL T

The Firewire Taylor Jensen Special T is a traditional longboard designed by shaper Dan Mann and 3x World Longboard Champion Taylor Jensen for surfers who want the classic noseriding feel of an old-school log with the performance advantages of modern construction. It's a trim-and-glide board built for stepping to the nose, drawing long lines, and surfing with style.

WHO

The Special T is for the longboarder whose first love is traditional style — smooth trim, long noserides, and the elegance of old-school longboarding.

  • The traditional longboarder who wants a dedicated noserider with modern build quality and durability
  • The surfer learning to step to the nose who needs a stable, forgiving board that rewards good footwork
  • The experienced longboarder drawn to the classic style of boards like the Phil Edwards era
  • The stylist who values flow, glide, and trim over aggressive rail carves
  • The rider who wants one longboard for everyday small-to-medium surf without the weight of a traditional heavy log

This is the board for surfers who want to surf with grace and let the wave do the work.

WHEN

The Special T is built for the wide middle of everyday longboard surf — clean peeling walls where you can step forward and stall in the pocket, softer lined-up waves where a flat rocker and wide nose generate speed through flat sections, and playful days with shoulder where you can still draw a turn off the tail. Its relaxed nose entry rocker and flat bottom curve make it exceptionally easy to catch waves early and ride them with stability, which is exactly what you want when conditions are mellow and the goal is stylish trim rather than critical maneuvers. Hawaii's consistent summer lines and softer winter inside sections are the kind of surf this board was designed to thrive in.

WHAT

The Special T is a traditionally outlined rounded pintail longboard with the specific design moves a noserider needs to hold the tip. Dan Mann gave it a flat rocker to lock water under the board for stability and easy wave catching, a wide nose to create a stable platform up at the front, and a rounded pintail that holds in the pocket so the nose stays planted when you step forward. The soft 50/50 rails carry a traditional curve through most of the board before leading into a tucked edge in the tail, which gives it the smooth, forgiving feel of a classic log while still letting you drive off the back foot when you want to. A scoop nose concave and extra tail flip round out the design — the scoop stabilizes the nose during long hangs, and the tail flip gives the back end just enough pop to turn when the wave calls for it.

DIMENSIONS

CONSTRUCTION OPTION

Helium2: An EPS foam core built with a variable flex I-beam stringer and Paulownia and balsa wood rails running the full length of the board, finished with a wooden nosecap for noseriding. Light, lively, and responsive, with flex tuned softer through the nose and firmer through the tail.
