SLASHER LOW PRO
The CJ Nelson Slasher Low Pro is the most forward-thinking longboard in the CJ Nelson Designs range ā co-designed with Ian Chisholm as a single fin built to noseride with classic feel and turn off the tail with modern response. It's not a log and not a high-performance shape; it's a fresh take on the involvement log that does both jobs at a level few longboards reach.
WHO
The CJ Nelson Slasher Low Pro is for the longboarder who wants one board that can shred turns and hold a clean nose ride in the same session.
- The traditional logger who's ready to add real turning ability without giving up the noseriding feel they already love
- The progressive longboarder who wants tighter, more critical turns out of a log-style outline
- The noserider who wants a board that still draws a hard line off the tail when the wave allows
- The experienced longboarder building a one-board quiver who refuses to compromise on either end of the spectrum
- The surfer chasing pocket logging ā staying in the steepest part of the wave and surfing it with both finesse and aggression
This is the board for surfers who want to redefine what a single fin can do.
WHEN
The Slasher Low Pro is built for the heart of longboard surf ā clean small-to-medium waves where you can step to the nose, pocket-shaped walls where you need to whip the tail and stay in the steep part, and stronger lined-up days where you want to draw a real performance carve. The concave nose generates lift in softer trim sections, the tail hip pivots tight in the pocket, and the lower performance rail with its modern tail edge holds an edge in faster, more critical waves. Hawaii's mix of mellow waist-high days and stronger overhead swells covers the exact range this board is designed to handle.
WHAT
The Slasher Low Pro takes the involvement log and rebuilds it from the ground up. Concave runs through the nose to create lift and a defined pocket for traditional noserides ā step forward and the board locks in. A pronounced hip in the back end shortens the rail line at the tail, which is what gives the board its pivot and whip when you snap a turn off the bottom or redirect in the pocket. From there, the rails drop into a lower, performance-style profile ā thinner and more refined than a classic log rail ā and finish in a modern hard edge through the tail. That hard edge is the design move that separates this board from a pure noserider: it releases water cleanly off the back of the board on turns, which is what makes carving and re-entries actually possible at this length.
CONSTRUCTION OPTIONS
Thunderbolt Black: Lightest and highest-performance Thunderbolt construction. EPS foam core with internal carbon fiber flex components, hand-laminated with 6oz carbon fiber and 2oz fiberglass on both deck and bottom. Quickest rebound rate in the Thunderbolt range ā built for responsive, performance-driven longboarding.
Thunderbolt Silver: The most traditional-feeling Thunderbolt construction. Same EPS core and internal carbon flex system, finished with a heavier fiberglass layup (6oz + 6oz on the deck, 6oz + 4oz on the bottom). Tuned for classic glide, drop-knee turns, and noseriding ā Thunderbolt's log-style construction.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size Slasher Low Pro should I order?
What size Slasher Low Pro should I order?
Slasher Low Pro sizing depends on your weight, your skill level, the conditions you surf most, and how you want to ride the board. Lighter or more progressive surfers tend to gravitate toward the 9'3", surfers wanting a true one-board quiver often choose the 9'6", and bigger surfers or surfers prioritizing classic noseriding generally lean to the 9'9". The right answer depends on the full picture, so contact us directly and we'll help you dial it in:

When you reach out, include your current board dimensions and volume, your weight, how you want to ride the Slasher Low Pro (more performance turning or more traditional noseriding), the type of breaks you surf most (beach break, reef break, point break), how often you surf, which Thunderbolt construction you're considering (Black or Silver), and your location ā location affects shipping options and helps us give you accurate delivery information.
Should I get the Slasher Low Pro in Thunderbolt Black or Thunderbolt Silver?
It depends on how you want the board to feel underfoot and what kind of surfing you're prioritizing. Thunderbolt Black is the lighter, stiffer, more responsive layup ā it has the quickest rebound in the Thunderbolt range, which means it snaps out of turns faster and surfs more like a high-performance longboard. It's the better pick for surfers who want to push the board hard on bigger or more powerful days, and it's often the choice for heavier surfers who want a more lively feel under their weight. Thunderbolt Silver is the heavier, more traditional layup. It carries momentum better in softer waves, glides smoother on the nose, and has the kind of weighted, planted feel longboarders associate with classic noseriding. Both are built on the same EPS core with the same internal carbon flex system ā the difference is in the outer lamination. If you're stuck between them, the deciding question is usually whether you want the board to feel performance-driven and quick, or traditional and glide-heavy.
Who is the Slasher Low Pro for?Ā
The Slasher Low Pro is for
Intermediate to advanced surfers who want a versatile performance longboard that can both noseride and turn aggressively. It's ideal for:
Traditional noseriders looking to add dynamic turns to their repertoire
High-performance surfers seeking a reliable single fin for smaller days
Surfers weighing up to 240 lbs who want a responsive board
Surfers who enjoy riding beach breaks and point breaks in the 1-4 foot range
The key attribute needed is a desire to push performance boundaries while maintaining traditional elements. The board rewards surfers who want to stay in the pocket rather than just trim on the shoulder.
What is the construction of the Slasher Low Pro?
The boards are built in Thunderbolt Red construction, which provides a balance of strength, durability, and flexibility and Thunderbolt Black lightest and most high-performance based technology.
What single fin works best with the Slasher Low Pro, and what size?
Single fin only
CJ's 10.5" fin is the baseline recommendation
This size is non-negotiable regardless of rider weight (even for lighter surfers)
Why This Size Matters:
- Provides necessary base and rake for drive
- Maintains stability during noseriding
- Ensures proper speed generation
- Essential for the board's designed performance
How does the Slasher Low Pro perform in different wave conditions?
Optimal Conditions:
- Wave size: 1-4 foot faces
- Best in beach breaks and point breaks
- Excels in waves with pocket sections
- Performs well in waves that offer shape and wall
Performance Characteristics:
- Designed to stay in the pocket, not ride the shoulder
- Wraps turns without needing to be pumped
- Maintains trim while allowing critical maneuvers
- Works best when surfed actively in the critical section
The board's sweet spot is in waves that offer some pocket to work with, stating it's "designed to stay in the pocket" rather than being surfed out on the shoulder. The board performs best when the waves have enough shape to allow for both noseriding and turning maneuvers.
