What's Vissla?

https://vimeo.com/161112605 The other day I was watching the Fiji Pro on WSL.com, and kept seeing an ad between heats where a young kid would ask his father, “Dad, what’s VISSLA?” After seeing this short video a few times, I realized that I, too, didn’t really know what VISSLA was, aside from a new surf brand that is popping up on t-shirts all over the place. So I figured I should check the brand out and see what all the hubbub was about. And as it turned out, it was nothing like I expected. Paul Naude - Picture from business.transworld.net Paul...

Donald Brink Surfboard

WHO IS BRINK SURFBOARDS Donald Brink, 34, was born and raised in South Africa. He started surfing at the age of 15 after his family relocated to the coast, and quickly developed a fascination for surfboard design and dynamics. After a few years of observing in the shaping room, Donald gained the confidence in 2005 to wield a planer for the first time. Today he continues to hone his craft, while taking the art of shaping down some unconventional paths. Donald looks at each board as an extension of the rider’s feet, building each custom board according the surfer’s stance....

The man that started it all almost 4 years ago Doug Walker Big Mahalo To Doug for giving us the opportunity to sponsor the event. July 29th 2016 will be a day to remember. https://vimeo.com/128198360 Roughly eight years ago, commercial film editor Doug Walker found himself experiencing a crossroads; he was craving a return to his beach culture roots. It was around this time when his wife handed him the gift of a video camera with the simple request to go out and create something he loved. Getting to Know Father of the Modern Longboard

Reinventing the Log Getting to Know Bill Stewart, Father of the Modern Longboard Bill Stewart in front of his air brush in front of his surfshop Bill Stewart is said to be the father of the modern longboard, but his influence started long before curves became cool again. In 1967, Stewart was repairing dings and experimenting with shorter surf craft as the Shortboard Revolution came into full swing. He’d cut down old longboards into shorter designs, then take what he’d learned and build on it the next time. By the time he invented the Hydro Hull he was already established...

The History of the Surf Leash

The History of the Surf Leash Photo Credit to AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL SURFING MUSEUM Today, surfboard leashes (or “leg ropes,” in the Aussie vernacular) are a ubiquitous part of the surf experience. But this hasn’t always been the case. In fact, prior to the early 1970s, the concept of a safety net for surfboards didn’t even exist. It was Pat O’Neill, son of famed wetsuit inventor Jack O’Neill, who is credited with creating the first leash—a piece of surgical tubing tied around his wrist, and attached to the board with a suction cup. Pat took his leash public at the 1971...
