A short, wide, volume-heavy groveler with straight rails and a deep double concave that effectively “splits” the board in half in order to allow it to turn and transition from rail to rail, the Sweet Potato was an instant hit with anyone who found themselves stuck surfing tiny longboard waves but not wanting to ride a longboard.

Now, Dan Mann has updated his popular Sweet Potato model with a new swallowtail and further refined his bottom contours to make the board even more responsive and user-friendly—without sacrificing any of the surfboard’s speed while paddling and flying down the line.

The Sweet Potato was designed for the days most shortboards get left on the rack. Its extremely flat rocker and wide outline let it lock into weak, crumbling waves early — the kind of surf that stalls out narrower, higher-volume boards. It performs best in waist-to-head-high conditions with soft or mushy energy, and it really excels when the surf is knee-to-waist-high and everyone else is debating whether it's worth paddling out. The deep double barrel concave generates drive from almost nothing, making it an essential board for inconsistent lineups where you need a board that will work with whatever the ocean gives.

The Sweet Potato's outline is unmistakable — one of the widest, flattest plans in shortboard history. Dan Mann kept the entry and exit rocker extremely low, which is what gives the board its ability to plane early and carry speed across flat sections.

The trademark deep double barrel concave runs through the bottom and effectively splits the board in half when it tilts onto rail, isolating the fins and rocker on one side at a time. The result is a board that surfs significantly narrower than it looks, pivots quickly, and generates drive without needing steep or powerful waves. The current model adds a refined swallowtail that increases pocket maneuverability without giving up the projection and flat-wave speed the Sweet Potato is known for.

In Helium construction, the Sweet Potato is lively and responsive underfoot. The stringerless EPS core is light and quick to accelerate, while the Paulownia and Balsa wood parabolic rails flex through turns and return energy on the exit. The proprietary deck skin resists compression and keeps the board feeling responsive across a long lifespan.
