🔧 Technology Behind the Magic: BlackSheep Construction

The California Mid features Lost's advanced BlackSheep construction, engineered for surfers who demand both performance and durability.

Core: Lightweight 1.5lb virgin EPS foam provides excellent buoyancy while keeping weight to a minimum.

Carbon Technology: The board utilizes Triax-NCF (Non-Crimp Fabric) high-quality carbon fiber with a unique triple-axis +30/-30°/0 layup. This multi-directional carbon enhances and controls torsional force from rail to rail.

Why Triax Carbon Works:

• The 0° nose-to-tail fibers act as a lively "stringer," increasing flex rebound speed and providing quick response under pressure
• The +30/-30° fibers control and accelerate the return of torsional twisting through the length of the board
• Because it's not woven, the fibers lay flatter, retain less resin, and remain smoother, straighter, and stronger with a more natural flex
• No 90-degree rail-to-rail carbon means fewer weak points and reduced risk of deck buckles, cracks, and breaks

Lamination: Triax Carbon is laminated only on the deck with a short bottom lap, sandwiched with multiple layers of 4oz "D-size" fiberglass top and bottom for durability and performance.

The California Mid retains the main design elements that made the CA-Twin such a fun and popular board:

Bottom Contour: Single concave from nose to tail with double concave throughout the fins for speed and control.

Deck & Rails: Flat deck with down soft rails and a foiled-out nose and tail for comfortable paddling and smooth rail-to-rail transitions.

Tail: Mark Richards' iconic winged swallow tail — a signature element that keeps things playful while providing hold.

Rocker: Low overall rocker for speed and glide, combined with a curvy rail-line rocker to keep turning quick and maneuverable.

Outline: By stretching the outline, the tail has been pulled in slightly, creating a wider sweet spot for standing and turning while lending more range on wave size and type.
