Based off 2025 World Champion Yago Dora’s Lowers-winning 6’0 Round Pin surfboard.
In celebration of Yago’s freshly minted World Title, we are “early releasing” his Round Pin tail version of the all-new FORMULA-1, for Fall ’25. The Formula-1 was originally an older model, made popular by Julian Wilson 15 years ago. We completely updated it and recently brought it back to life, testing under the feet of Cole Houshmand and 2025 World Champ Yago Dora, among others.
It all started with a team day down at Lowers, filming all the boys riding a collection of vintage team rider boards pulled from the attic, for our still-unreleased “USED” edit. Among the collection (ranging from the ’80s–2010s), a pair of Julian Wilson’s F1 boards from 2010 and 2011 were hits, inspiring me to… “Look back, in order to see forward.”
We searched out the original “AKU” file from Julian’s magic Lowers “Clown” board and overlapped it on top of a current Driver 3.0 team board, incorporating many of the original’s design aspects and curves, melding the two together, to create something completely new.
At first, we developed a squash tail version, similar to the old Julian board and got it under the feet of Cole Houshmand and other local team riders, with electric responses. Cole rode his first one to great success in multiple WSL events—El Salvador, Lowers, and finally winning the WCT event in Brazil.
Feeling onto something, we made a handful of Round Pin tails leading up to the Lowers CT event.
We gave one of the first F-1 Round Pin versions to Yago mid-event, just a couple of nights before Finals Day at Lowers. He tried it that night and was so impressed, he switched to a brand-new board, riding it in the Semi-Finals and Final—winning our home event on this design. A prototype test F-1 Round Pin.
The overall feeling is a combination of instant speed, lively lift and very fast, driving turns that initiate from the front foot, with a precise, sharp finish under the back foot.
The stock/standard files for the Fall ’25 early release are all based off (and scaled from) Yago’s Lowers-winning board 6’0 x 19” x 2.50” at 29.75 liters.
In Spring ’26, we will be releasing the Squash Tail, based exactly off (and scaled from) Cole’s magic Brazil WCT-winning board
In relation to the Driver 3.0...
- In general, the new F1 is more “set back,” in both outline and rail-line rocker, than the Driver 3.0.
- The nose is a bit narrower at 12” and 24”, with the wide point a bit further back and more hip in the outline. It’s got more outline and rail-line curve between the feet through the tail, which is wider 12” up (under the rear foot) with more curve and pulled in from there.
- A more defined “pin” in the last few inches than the Driver 3.0’s “round” tail, for added bite and connectivity.
- The F-1 features a fairly thick centerline, with a “vee” deck tapering to rails that are a bit more full and forgiving.
- A bit more nose rocker ahead of the front foot and a touch less tail rocker, but with more concave between the feet and through the tail.
- Noticeably deeper single concave, with purposeful double concave all the way through the rear fin, lending speed and lift.
- The deep concave creates a more pronounced rail-line curve under the rear foot and through the fins, for precise, tight-radius turns.
- The tail block is thinner with boxy rails for grip and hold

LOST FORMULA 1
The Lost Formula 1 is a world championship-proven round pin shortboard built for advanced surfing in powerful, punchy waves. Originally shaped for Julian Wilson and revived under the feet of 2025 World Champion Yago Dora, this is the board you reach for when conditions demand commitment.
WHO
The Formula 1 is built for surfers who already know how to surf — and want to push further.
- Advanced intermediates ready to step up their performance in more demanding conditions
- Experienced surfers who need a dedicated board for powerful, hollower waves
- Competitive surfers and serious hobby surfers looking for a world-tour-tested shape
- Surfers who prioritize drive, bite, and precision over forgiveness
- Anyone who finds their everyday shortboard running out of grip or control in heavier surf
If you're comfortable in overhead-plus waves and want a board that rewards commitment and generates speed from the front foot, the Formula 1 is built for you
WHEN
The Formula 1 earns its place in the quiver when the waves have real consequence — overhead to well overhead, with power behind them. It shines in hollow, fast-breaking surf where a round pin tail's added bite and control make the difference between holding your line and getting washed. This is not a board for gutless or mushy days; it's shaped for conditions where you need your equipment to keep up with you. Hawaii's reef-heavy lineups with punchy, shifting peaks are exactly the environment this board was designed for.
WHAT
The Formula 1 is a direct descendant of Julian Wilson's original F1 template from the early 2010s — the board he used during his dominant years on tour — rebuilt from the original shaping file and merged with elements of the current Driver 3.0. Compared to the Driver 3.0, the F1 sits further set back in both outline and rail-line rocker. The nose is narrower at the 12" and 24" marks, with the wide point positioned further back and more curve through the hip. The tail is wider under the rear foot with more outline curve and a clearly defined pin in the last few inches — giving it more bite and connectivity than the Driver 3.0's rounder tail. A thick centerline with a vee deck tapers to rails that are slightly fuller and more forgiving, while added nose rocker and reduced tail rocker create a board that initiates quickly from the front foot and finishes sharp under the back.
The bottom contour runs a noticeably deeper single concave into a purposeful double concave all the way through the rear fin cluster. That combination generates lift and speed across a broad range of turn types — from long, driving carves to tight, committed bottom turns — without sacrificing the round pin's characteristic hold in critical sections. The result is a board that feels fast and lively underfoot with precise, high-radius finishes when it matters most.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What makes the Lost F1 different from other round pin shortboards?
The Lost Formula 1 combines Julian Wilson's proven F1 template from the early 2010s with modern Driver 3.0 elements. It features a deep single to double concave, progressive outline, added nose rocker, and reduced tail rocker for enhanced drive and control in powerful waves.
What size Lost Formula 1 should I ride?
Yago Dora's championship dimensions are 6'0" x 19" x 2.5" at 29.75 liters. For Hawaii's powerful waves, most intermediate to advanced surfers should size 2-4 inches shorter than their height. Visit Hawaiian South Shore for personalized sizing based on your weight, skill level, and local wave conditions.
Is the Lost F1 good for Hawaii surf conditions?
Yes, the Lost Formula 1 excels in Hawaii's hollow and powerful waves. The round pin tail provides control in steep faces, while the progressive outline and concave setup deliver drive and speed needed for waves like Pipeline, Sunset Beach, and Rocky Point. It's designed specifically for the type of surfing we experience in Hawaii.
What construction should I choose for the Lost Formula 1?
The Lost F1 is available in multiple constructions at Hawaiian South Shore: traditional PU for classic flex and feel, Lightspeed for lighter weight and enhanced responsiveness, and Black Sheep carbon for maximum durability and performance. Your choice depends on your surfing style and wave conditions.
Who should ride the Lost Formula 1?
The Lost Formula 1 is best suited for intermediate to advanced surfers who want a high-performance round pin for powerful waves. If you're comfortable surfing overhead waves and want control in hollow or larger surf, this board will elevate your progressive surfing style.
